I noticed. I'm afraid, however, you're in the minority among those wishing to change the model corporation.

[/ QUOTE ]
At least I appear in the minority with how my point of view is characterized. There are actually plenty of people working in the same thread. Anywhere you read about people doing sustainable aggriculture, renewable energy, employee owned businesses, or socially conscience investments you're reading about people who share my mindset but are coming at it from different angles. Those protesting the World Trade Organizations are a vocal minority while I don't entirely disagree with some of their positions. I just don't agree with their tactics but I can see where they are coming from. I also don't find it useful to get caught up fighting battles with them. One of the biggest thing that annoys me about people who critize the 'left' is that these are the only people they can think of. They pay attention to tactics and not goals. First we need to agree on the goals and then we can have a discussion.

Not doing so leads to a problem of characterization. Its one of the reasons the pinko crap is annoying as the entire example of the soviet union is a completely baseless argument. But I digress...

[ QUOTE ]
America existed longer w/o social security than it has with. I wouldn't exactly call that traditional. America was built on self-reliance and accomplishment, not safety nets and nanny laws.

[/ QUOTE ]

That is true but it has become ingrained in our tradition imho but tradition is a tricky thing to define so let's back up for a second. That's when ideas start to get labeled with words like 'nanny'. How about suggesting to me what you think the goal of social security is and what a better way of achieving that goal is? btw, I have serious problems with social security but not because I don't think we can share collective risk.

don't worry, Fox News will tell you its the Mexican's fault. . .

[ QUOTE ]
lol. I don't understand the conservative opposition to immigration. It's no different than the outsourcing they support, except the employees come here. wtf?

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree with you. It makes no sense from a capitalist's point of view. The reason they do that though is that they are melding interest groups into a political machine. Evangelicals have teamed with the corporate sector who have joined with xenophobes to form the current form of 'conservatism'. The reason the top 1% taxes were lowered is because people are scared of abortions and brown people.
