Default Wiiplay - My review + thoughts

I just picked up wiiplay today, and thought I'd share my comments. Since I bought my Wii just last week, I've been very impressed with it, it's been alot of fun, so I'm not being negative here just to be negative, I love the wii, just not wiiplay. Cliff's notes at bottom.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, I saw it online, and all I knew was that it was a bunch of mini games, and it came with a remote (it basically cost about $10 more then a remote does by itself), so I figured I couldn't go wrong, because I love mini games. I also REALLY love Wii sports, so I thought it might be similar.

The problem is, is that the mini games are basically a tutorial on how to use the wiimote. Ie. how to twist it, aim, use the buttons etc. The mini games are actually mini mini games, ie there isn't much content, and I didn;t find most of them fun.

1. Shooting Range - you shoot ballons, targets, clay skeets, aliens, etc, but there is unlimited ammo, so it's not very challenging, you just blast away. It has some replay value.

2. Find Mii - It's basically a "Where's Waldo". You have a time limit and you need to pick out the mii's that are different from the others etc. Pretty mundane.

3. Table Tennis - This is nothing like the Wii Sports version of tennis. There is no thinking, it's only moving the paddle back and forth so as to let the ball hit the paddle, and it is automatically returned to the other person. If you have Wii Sports Tennis, there is no reason to play this.

4. Pose Mii - There are 3 "poses" and bubbles with one of the poses randomly in them are falling from the sky. You need to select the proper pose, and tilt the wiimote to match up with the bubble, and it will pop. If you let the bubble hit the floor, you lose. Again, this is very mundane and not fun.

5. Billiards - This one I actually liked. You can move the angle around, and place "english" on the ue ball, etc. This one I would actually have fun with playing against somebody else.

6. Fishing - Quite different then fishing in Zelda. basically drop the hook in the water, let a fish take it, and yank it up. Mundane.

7. Charge! - You'r on a cow, and your stering it, trying to collect scarecrows and jump hurdles etc. Was actually quite fun, but would get old fast.

8. Tanks! - I had some fun with this. You steer a tank around a maze, trying to shoot the other tanks. I'm not sure how the mulitplayer plays out, but I could see some fun with this.

So after all the games were played, I really liked Billiards and Tanks, but the rest were not very fun. As I said in the beginning I did not know what to expect, but for $10 bucks more then a controller, you can't really go wrong anyways. It felt like this disk should have been included with the Wii as well, as it playe more like a tutorial for the wiimote then anything else.

Cliff notes: Mini games were really sub par except for Billiards and tanks, but for the cost of a remote + $10, you can't really go wrong.

I just got Wii Play today and I enjoyed all the games except fishing. I'm eager to see how these games play in 2+ person mode. I agree that you're not getting a whole heck of a lot here, but of course since it comes with a remote you're not paying much either.

Also, I think you left out the 'neon hockey' one (kind of like air hockey), which was pretty cool against the computer, and I could definitely see it being fun with another person.

Don't know which level you are talking about. I think I got to 25. Odd man for tennis was easy once you know what to look for.

totally worth the $10 more to get the extra wiimote, not so much if the game was $50 by itself. Played it with my 8 year old, and he preferred Wiisports, but he would easily replay cows, and tanks, and hockey.

at first, i played it in single player mode and it wasn't too bad, but probably no staying power.

but played it with a bunch of friends last night and it was surprisingly a lot more fun playing Charge!, Laser Hockey, and Table Tennis. I thought Billiards would be more fun with two players, but it was kind of meh. It definitely works well for what it's intended for (to learn how to use the wii-mote better in various ways).

I had trouble with this level as well. All of the guys looked different, how do you pick the 2 that are different if they all are?
