Feel free to laugh but I was saddened by the death of Mr. Rogers. It may be cool to make fun of his incurable lack of hipness but he was a genuinely caring person who did a lot of good in the world.

I've never been saddened by hearing about a celebrity death. I was somewhat upset to hear about Hartman because he was so damn funny. I wasn't as upset about Farley, even though I probably enjoyed him more, probably because his death was less of a shocker.

Although this ended up being a case of someone who did not die, Magic Johnson's HIV+ announcement in 1991 was akin to a death sentence at the time in the eyes of most of the public. He was forced to retire just a few months after taking the Lakers to the Finals and was clearly the most recognizable figure to that point to catch it (and arguably still is).

As a fan of the NBA, it made me as sad as anyone who died, since it seemed like a matter of time before he was gone. And here we are 15+ years later and he looks as good as ever. Still sucks as a commentator though.
