Can you explain why the singles player has the advantage? Because I was leaning towards the Williams sisters on all of these.

If Shaq in his prime went up against two star WNBA players, do you honestly think the WNBA players would ever come close? How could they ever stop him? The gap in athleticism between the sexes in basketball translates almost identically to tennis.

Shaq in his prime would lose to 2 high school guards over 48 minutes and it wouldn't even be close.

Honestly I think the Williams sisters would have a great chance here. I get more frustrated than just about anyone when people talk of women competing with professional male tennis players, but a setup like the one suggested is extremely advantageous for any two reasonably skilled players.

The deficit between the sheer power with which the Williams sisters hit the ball as compared to a professional man is not that large. It's mainly their court coverage, consistency, and precision that's nowhere close to any professional man. Putting two against one neutralizes these weaknesses to a large extent.

The doubles thing is a different story. The one-on-one comment above got everyone going. But for doubles--well I'm far from any kind of tennis expert, but I'd pick the sisters together fairly happily.

Yes. They would win.

Shaq with the ball at the top of the key and he's double-covered. How often is he able to dribble into shooting range without having the ball stolen?

there is no way, none whatsoever, that federer would ever lose to the williams sisters, either in tandem or alone. they might get a couple games, and that's all

Do either of the Williams sisters have an excellent net game? by excellent i mean on par with someone on the mens tour? If both Williams sisters stayed back, yea, they could cover more ground, but all of Federers strokes are arguably the best in the world. His forehand especially would just over power them, imo.

[/ QUOTE ]

Keep in mind that it would be exponentially easier to volley in a 2 on 1 scenario. Any reasonable groundstroke is a good approach shot, there is only half the court to cover once they're up there, and being positioned to the side makes it much easier to find wide angles on the volleys.

A real question is who would be better, Federer playing tennis with a golf ball or Tiger Woods playing golf with a tennis ball?

I don't want to be anywhere near Federer if he's smacking golfballs around the court at 130mph.
