This was probably meant as a typical math/Bayesian question, so why no responses related to math?
There are over 200,000,000 streetfighters; in contrast to a pool of maybe 40,000 US citizens seriously considering a career as a SEAL (of course not an ordinary sample by any means), etc. Also, there are considerations of what characteristics any outliers would possess, e.g. maybe good grapplers with fantastic (read, out of this world, never seen before) head butting abilities would just win, no matter what category they belong to, but they'd be more likely to be found in the streetfighter category just by the math alone. Ah, now you are all better poker players, how does that feel? |

ok. this is my first post ever even thou i've been readin from this website every single day for the last yr or so. i felt i had to finally subscribe and write b/c this question has been around for a while and noone gets it right. i'm amazed at the plain ignorance in this subject from u all. that said, this is how it goes...
almost everyone agrees the streetfighter and boxer would be last b/c of limited set of skills and other reasons i won't repeat cause they've already been posted. these two havin the worst chance of survivin makes perfect sense. here's what bothers me. how come almost noone chooses the martial artist? noone here has the slightest idea of what "the greatest martial artist in the world" would be capable of. i practiced martial arts for 9 yrs. taekwondo, karate, and cuong nhu so even thou i'm no expert i think i know enough about it to make a claim for this. i once saw a fight (about 7 yrs ago) where this guy beat up a whole gang by himself in front of a club. literally a gang of streetfighters (13 of them) by himself. the fight lasted less than 5 minutes. this guy had 3 black belts in 3 different discplines. he was an excellent fighter, but from what i've seen he's not even close to "the best in the world". i think of it this way: 13 people just like me, or better said, 13 me's would beat the living sh** out of fedor or a navy seal. how can fedor or a navy seal then beat the greatest martial artist of them all? u think the navy seal or fedor would stand a chance against bruce lee or steven seagal in their prime? let me assure that they could take on 2 or 3 fedors in 3 minutes. |

i need to fix somethin from my previous post. it's not fair to write "13 me's" because i think 13 me's would beat anyone in the world period. 13 is just way too many. the 13 member gang i would say accounted for about 5 or 6 me's. let's say i'm better than i think i am so it would've only taken 4 me's to take out the 13 guys. still, 4 me's would absolutely crush any ultimate fighter i've ever seen (i've seen em all). i'm also sure any top world class martial artist could kill me in less than a minute or could knock out 4 me's pretty quick. so how can fedor or the best navy seal (who probably could never beat fedor) beat the martial artist? it just doesn't make any sense. maybe if the navy seal, the ultimate fighter, the boxer, and streetfighter gang up on the martial artist. all of them at the same time is the only chance i see. and even if they planned it well ahead of time they're not a big favorite against the world's best martial artist.

Since the last one was so popular, here is one that is more relevant, that I have no idea about. In a fight to the death with no gloves inside an enclosure, rate the chances of these five: World's best boxer World's best karate and or other Asian martial arts. World's most elite Navy Seal as far as hand to hand combat is concerned. World's best real streetfighter from a gang or whatever. World's best ultimate fighting champion Assume fairly equal weights of course [/ QUOTE ] What if one of them is a five year old? |

I would guess that the top MMA fighter is most likely the best or very close to the best martial artist. The edge then likely goes to the MMA fighter because he is better conditioned with more experience.

[/ QUOTE ] Uh, no. Your experience notwithstanding, "asian martial artists" are no match for an MMA fighter. Just think: why are NO strictly Kung Fu/Tae Kwon Do/Karate practicioners able to beat Fedor/Mirko/Josh Barnett, etc? The matchups have taken place, and the Kung Fu guys get MANHANDLED. Now, I know the fights took place with some holds barred, but nothing was barred that took an edge from the standup fighter. Nothing. The "UFC champ" wins this contest--no questions asked. |
