This was a local Live MTT at a club in London.

Blinds started at 25-25 and are now 25-50 (raising every 20 mins)

I'm Dealt AK UTG and smooth call. 1 other call from button, SB completes and BB checks.

Flop;

SB checks, Bb Checks, I check hoping for button to bet. Button checks.

Turn;

8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

SB Checks, BB bets 100, I call, button and SB fold.

River;

K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

BB checks, I think and then bet 300 into a pot of 400.

BB dwells up and folds.

Comments on any streets for general play but also maximising value, as I feel I may have missed out on some.

Hehe... you are right. You should have bet all streets here.

That's way too passive to be effective. Don't think in terms of preventing folds, but think in terms of expectation. Clearly, betting like this with the nuts cannot be even remotely close to good. Just examine this hand and get more aggressive with strong hands in the future.

Raise pre-flop. Ok, you could mix in a limp very occasionally, but AK is a clear raise this early in a tournament.

Bet out on the flop. What indicates Button would bet? He didn't show aggression pre-flop. By betting out you might get a mid pair or a flush draw to tag along and you don't want them to catch a full house or a flush for free. There are virtually no hands that can improve enough on the turn and that you also still have beat. Most often, you're only getting action from Ax here and the best way to build a pot and end up getting their whole stack, is not to slowplay.

Given how you played it, I guess turn is fine. I would also bet around 300 and hope that Villain was checking to induce a bluff from busted draws and call you with a mid pocket pair.

If this post is serious it is really bad.

When you flop a big hand your goal should be to get all in against someone who flopped a slightly smaller big hand. Your goal should not be to trap a bluffer with nothing for one bet.

You need to be betting every street here for around 2/3 the size of the pot. Your goal should be to get a lot of chips from someone who has the case ace, not to catch a bluff from the guy who has KQ.

This is really bad but the first step is admitting that you have a problem and you have come to the right place for help.

Ditto. You have to get paid on these hands.

The bad news is you got very little out of a monster. Not that you would have gotten much more, but a PF raise might have netted you something.

I guess the good news is, despite giving up two essentially free cards, a flush didn't hit you.

You absolutely needed to bet something on the flop. By not betting, you let three people draw against you with a flush draw on the board. Betting there doesn't necessarily indicate you have an A--you could just be stealing or have a decent hand trying to shut out a flush draw.

Same thought on the turn. Even though two players dropped, raising the 100 was necessary. Many players will bet that board with a flush draw, a 4, or any pair, and perhaps pay off a raise.

When the K came on the river, you had the deck crippled. Highly unlikely you'd have gotten any more $$ at that point.
