I generally don't start many threads, but I definitely have the intelligence to determine if my thread could potentially generate good discussion, or if it is just dumb. I would like to be able to start threads here.

Truth is *this* is the best thread in the forum so far. The only better one I can think of would be "I want my own forum."

I would enjoy seeing an experiential learning thread for common experiences from a long term perspective. I'm thinking in the 5-15 year range, or so. A mix of "If I had known then what I know now, I would have done X differently", "People/my parents/my crazy uncle always told me X, but I didn't believe them until Y", "I made X decision Y years ago, and was unsure about it, had lots of conflicting advice, and now I think Z about it".
Kind of like an unasked life advice thread for things that many people experience or have the opportunity to experience, so that people who have yet to be in the position to make the decisions that the posters have already made can have some real world examples and stories to help guide them or provide them with information from somewhat likeminded individuals. Examples: Taking a year to travel before going to college Deciding to have or not have kids Choosing a specific degree Major relationship decisions Any life decisions with a serious long-term impact |

El D,
It just occurred to me that Shant should be allowed to post here. Maybe he'd come back. Also, did you get my PM about your internet doppleganger the other day? LFS |

Could we have a thread about the conflict between professional careers and poker? I don't mean to be exclusive of 9-5ers but I think that certain professions such as law and medicine often require much, much more than 40 hours a week, and much more than simply putting your time in. I don't mean to ask about the intersection of school and poker, I figure that's not really too hard. I am sincerely interested in how people deal with the lure of poker, 2p2, etc when in a professional setting.
