JA - It's been awhile since I've been to Paris but here is my suggestion. Paris is a great place to walk. You can literally traverse the city on foot in a few hours. What I would do is find the major city attractions on a map and then not go there. Walk around until you find a neighborhood restaurant that looks like a nice place to eat. If you do this I'll bet you find the French to be very nice and fun to be around.

Your description of this forum sounds, to me, a lot like the lounge, with the major difference being that you have restricted the ability to create threads to a particular group.

Am I wrong? If I'm not, I don't understand the reason for this forum.

And I'm not trying to start a fight, just trying to figure out if there's a reason for me to read over here, as opposed to - or in addition to - the lounge.

very good advice. My favorite days there when I visited this summer were spend walking around the city and chilling out with a beer and panini by a fountain for a 2 hour lunch.

The main reason would be because El D is likely to exhibit better quality control than diebitter, and his imprimatur is enough to bring over good OOT posters in a way that the lounge apparently failed to. Or at least that would be the idea. Time will tell.

El D,

I was wondering if you had any experience with restaurants in Paris and if so, what would you recommend? I will be traveling there in the next couple months.

I travel to Paris a lot, and I love:

Fabulous atmospheric little side-street restaurant with a brilliant Maitre-D, who gives what is close to a theatrical performance.

3-course dinner with a modest wine costs perhaps $75/head.

Nick: I imagine it has something to do with the two legs. No, while I would be delicious, I would not eat myself if I were a hot dog. It would just be too weird.

Wes: I'm a mod to adminster this forum, which I thought would be a good idea. I had no other reason or desire to be a mod in the past. I'm happy to be a mod to run this forum.

TC: At one point we had an offer on the table that would have put over $20M cash in my pocket, potentially up to $50M. I ended up making a small fraction of that. I was pretty bitter and down for a few months after all that. But then I realized that I was in my twenties, had basically never had a boss, had enough money to take as much time off as I wanted, and had the contacts and experience to do whatever I wanted next. It took me somewhere between 6 to 12 months to truly buy into that, but really, it's silly for me to complain about my life, so I didn't and I don't. I've always been able to live where I want to live, eat what I want to eat, and travel where I want to go. Sure, more money would let me have a lot more and bigger toys, but that sort of stuff just isn't all that important to me in the grand scheme of things. Right around that time, a good friend's dad passed away and that really put a lot of stuff in perspective about how lucky I was not just with my career and money, but also with friends and family. I took about a year totally off, then started looking into new business ideas, doing some consulting w/ friends and investors, and getting involved advising a few friends with their business. I then started working on what became my current company. Hmmmm, that got a little long. For young entrepreneurs, the number one most important thing is JUST DO IT. Just try stuff, see what works, see what sells. Something doesn't work, TRY AGAIN! Be very persistent and don't give up. I know so many stories of guys who have been wildly successful just through sheer force of will. Of course, that presumes that you are listening to your customers and market. If they tell you it's a bad idea, try another one!

kipin: I most definitely endorse travelling to Europe, especially Spain and Italy. But in terms of how you get by in day-to-day life, it's very similar to the US and nothing at all like going to Asia, for example. And definitely nothing lke going to third-world countries.

El D,

What do you feel are effective ways to network in business? What ways are not so effective? If possible, give answers specific to the San Francisco market. In my line of work accountants and small to medium-sized business owners would be the top individuals to target.

El D,

I had no idea you were fond of gang related material, I am as well. Have you ever read Five Families: The Rise, Decline, and Resurgence of America's Most Powerful Mafia Empires?

How is the mod forum?
