El Diablo,
Fantastic forum. I promise not to abuse my posting privileges with more than a few select new threads a year. |

Ron,
This forum has nothing to do with the Lounge. This is the second experiment on 2+2 with pretty tightly moderated forums. Sklansky's forum is obviously as tightly locked down as it gets. I'm extending things a bit here. Maybe this will be a template of sorts for future types of forums as 2+2 continues to grow. Or maybe not. We'll see! Anyway, in terms of difference, there are two big differences between this and the Lounge, or any other 2+2 forum. One is that 100 people can start new threads here. Almost 1000 times less than the number of people who can start threads in the other forums. The other is that good posts of any type on any topic are pretty much acceptable here. What do I want this to be? I just want it to be a place where people I respect and enjoy interacting with can post. I want it to be a place where the simple rule of "don't make stupid posts" is enough to keep it a fun and interesting place to read and post. Sometimes that'll be some deep stuff, sometimes it'll be some short, funny, or caustic stuff. But it'll hopefully not be ridiculous and lame. As 2+2 has grown, certain types of discussion have become far less frequent. That's to be expected as a place grows from a small community of users into a place with almost 100,000 users. I'm hoping that this corner of 2+2 can provide a little bit of that old-school 2+2 feel. And as I state in the sticky, I'd like to talk about Politics, Sports, and other things that are now no longer kosher to discuss in OOT for good reason. But I also can't be a regular in all those forums. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one like that. So, the Diablo forum. Maybe it'll turn into something cool. If so, great. If not, we'll close it down or try something else. Simple as that. |

its been made clear many many times that these forums are very important to El Diablo but I can't help but think this may destroy OOT as well as the lounge. I suppose the ridiculous volume in OOT will keep up, its just I don't expect to post there (or for many on this list) much now because so many of the replies to my threads in the past have had little to nothing to do with what I was talking about

All,
I am a big fan of OOT and won't lobby for anything to be moved from there or anyplace else. I'll continue to post a lot in OOT because that's where the most people will see what I have to write. However, some things I'm less interested in preaching to the masses and more interested in discussing with a specific, smaller group of folks. Those things will go here. |

This will definitely cannibalize OOT a little, but most of the folks that reply to threads and don't tend to start them will bounce back and forth with little difficulty.

I am proud to be one of the Hundred Points of Darkness.
This may have me re-thinking my whole "severely scaling back posting on 2+2" idea. Well, it probably won't, but I'll participate here. |
