nonsense. hes been the 2nd best QB over the past ~5 years in the NFL. however if it were not for "the rings" then people wouldnt make dumb statements like he is better than manning.

You don't get it sublime sure Manning puts up good numbers in the regular season but he can't manage games like Tom Brady does. He also doesn't let his stats get too high because he does just enough to win games instead of Peyton who pads his stats with meaningless touchdowns at the end of games. If Brady wanted to have Manning's regular seasons stats he could but instead he just wins games.

Not that I agree with your statement, but I was wondering why the F Jeff Sorgi (or whatever his name is...Colts back-up) hasn't taken a snap all regular season?

What is that about? Why does/did Manning take every snap of every game? Seriously, I'd like to see a really good argument for this.

You can throw out "well they wanted to secure HF advantage" and "a lot of their wins were close games" but that isn't enough to cut it. You shouldn't hurt your thumb in the AFC championship game and then be like "be ready!" to the dude who hasn't seen a football since the last time he saw Stuey on Family Guy.

Rings aren't that important in judging who is great. Thing is that guys with rings had chances to showcase themselves, while great QB's on bad teams never get seen. Let's say Peyton played in Detroit. He would be good enough to maybe get them to .500? Maybe sneak into the playoffs, just to lose in the first round? Anyone who brings up rings to identify greatness only does so because they don't have enough info to make an informed decision. Even stats don't make a star. Declaring someone great is a qualitative exercise, not a qunatitative one, especially in football.

Indianapolis had the fewest drives of any team in the league this year, which serves to depress their raw totals. Their production per drive, in yards and points, respectively:

2003: 2.48; 34.74
2004: 2.93; 39.83
2005: 2.64; 37.04
2006: 2.80; 41.03

Incidentally, 2006 is the 4th straight year that Indy has been first in the league in both categories, which is pretty damn amazing. The Rams were first in both categories for three years, 1999-2001, though with slightly lower numbers. The stat is only listed going back to 1998, but its hard to think of another, similar stretch of offensive dominance, except perhaps from Bill Walsh's San Francisco teams.

It's pretty much standard operating procedure -- most teams leave their starters in all the way even during a blowout (not that the Colts blew a lot of teams out this year, remember). Maybe an average backup gets (literally) one or two mop-up drives in which he just hands the ball off a few times, but do you really think that that prepares a QB for anything significant? It would be much more valuable to have him take extra snaps with the first team in practice.

Not to mention the fact that the Colts know they're [censored] if Manning gets hurt. It doesn't matter how much game time Sorgi gets, if Manning goes out its game over.

Namath might be the most overrated person to ever do anything ever.
