With all thats going on and the apparent chaos and uncertainty within the online poker industry, how many of you guys are ready to call it quits? I have been an avid poker player for the past 2 years or so and have basically learned everything about the game from 2+2, however I have a very active family, career, and other interests and I am honestly trying to figure out if the risk is worth it to me. Now I know that I'm not nearly as hardcore as many of you and don't depend on poker as a living like many here do, but what are your plans... Obviously if things work out great, but if not what is everyones plan B. I'm really pissed with everything thats going on because one of my faverite past times is being taken from me, on the other hand, and being honest with myself, I see this as being a tremendous blow that may actually destroy the industry. These are just my random thoughts... [/ QUOTE ] yup, i'm gone. with all this chaos, i expect the fish pool to dry up. now i have to figure out how to fill a 2yr gap my in resume |

<<< DIEHARD It's our mission to show the U.S. that prohibition doesn't work and I'm willing to accept that task. [/ QUOTE ] I'm watching a lot of what's going on with the knowledge that it will never be the same as it was, even if it turns into something that kind of resembles what we've had the past two years. So yes, I'm thinking I'll cut way way back, leaving a few hundred in for drunkaments / fun. But what you say is an important consideration as well. I'm taking a little break right now, but I'm not sure I'm not laying down / sucking up / surrendering. I was thinking that it would take laws, uniformed dudes knocking down doors, sites vanishing in the night, and monies disappearing to cause a real effect, but apparently it takes a bill passing, a couple of random arrests, and sites and players both run for the hills without a fight. I don't like that. |

My friends and I, whom have been playing online NLHE for a living for about 2 years now, are on mega-life tilt because they all have to get jobs. Me, I have had one, so it is business as usual. Just harder to get to my money and fishy to get into the pond.

Thank you to everyone who has posted. I was expecting to get flamed a little bit, but I appreciate everyone being honest and respectful of all of the other posters.
In terms of risk, I was thinking about family or career, more in the lines of losing my bankroll, IRS investigation ect... If they can go after banks and reputable online sites I guess there is a chance they could eventually come after players...who knows what type or records the DOJ is requesting. Also, as a CPA I can tell you that if you can not substantiate your losses to offset winings, or they feel that your winnings are understated...they will come after you...this would really only apply to the pros here that play for a living...not guys like me. If this does turn from bad to worse the part that I'm going to really miss as a serious recreational player is being able to pull out a few hundred a week to splurge on stuff...that always felt good, but most of all I'm going to end up having to play in some low limit dumb mixed game at some buddies house once every 3 months where every other card is wild!!! It's just really hard to see any good coming out of all of this. If Neteller literally droped the good ole USA in the matter of 12 hours without notice...I know they were planning on leaving...whats to say Stars won't follow suit anytime soon. Has anyone even heard from Lee? Honestly I doubt they even know whats going on. Here's another thing I haven't really seen posted, but whats going to come of this wonderful board if the hammer falls? I bet all the authors have to be a little concerned because it seems that the majority of us who buy their books play online so when everyone says the fish tank is drying up, it's also drying up for the authors. I just keeping of more to say but...did anyone notice that there were ZERO Full Tilt pros online yesterday? I got on about 8:30pm and there was nobody, usually you can find a least a handful... |
