I think there are LOADS of possible states with 1-9 on every face.

If u also take in account that it was 1 turn away from being solved AND that u maybe were solving a little bit without actually trying i think it's not even that improbable.

the difference wit a rubiks cube is that all numbers exept the 5 (is already in place) can be placed correctly on 6 places, this is NOT true for the colours on the rubiks cube.

There seem to be many more state where the numberals do NOT appear exactly once on each face than there are states where they do.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just so you feel better, it is really unlikely that your cube would end up exactly how you arranged it.

there's probably more than one congifuration that is solved.

[/ QUOTE ]

If anyone could confirm this, I would appreciate it. But how many possible "solved" configurations can there be out of 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 total possible configurations?

[/ QUOTE ]

didnt read through thread prolly out there already, the number are locked into place, like the 5 is always in the middle, so that cuts down the possiblities drastically.

[/ QUOTE ]

The 43 quintillion number is the actual correct number of configurations of any 3x3x3 Rubik's cube. The fact that the 5s are fixed doesn't help. As I've said before, the trick now is to determine how many states there are with the numerals 1-9 one every face exactly once, but not necessarilly in correct order (there may be as many as 12 indistinguishable "perfectly solved" states with the numbers in correct order; I'm not sure yet).

[/ QUOTE ]

Will someone just do the math already. Im tired of this stupid cube discussion ruining a good thread about sports comebacks.

I was once chatting with a random girl on the East Coast and after a long conversation we figured out that my grandparents sold their house in Los Angeles to her parents about 30 years ago and she grew up in the same bedroom my mom grew up in. Freaky stuff!

Very heads-up of #42 to duck and give the shooter a clear angle.

Also, I was IM'ing this girl I wanted to bang, and she had had a lez experience with the first girl I'd ever kissed. Didn't get the three-way, though, 'cause I have no game.

While on a ski vacation with a friend's family, my friend's mom was correcting his table manners and generally telling him what to do. My friend was becoming visibly irritated, but clearly did not want to upbraid his mom in front of his dad. So he waited until his dad excused himself to use the restroom, then finally said: "Mom, stop. I'll use whatever fork I like, and, quite frankly, I'm 30 years old. You don't have to tell me to drink my juice carefully so as not to bang my teeth with my glass." His mom clearly felt bad, and a pall settled over the table. His dad returned and sat down, then picked up his wine glass -- and promptly banged his teeth while trying to take a drink.

My GF and I, as well as my friend and his mom, and two friends of theirs, instantly started howling with laughter. My friend's dad had absolutely no idea why everyone else was rudely laughing at his misfortune, and became progressively angrier as we continued to laugh. His anger only fueled our humor, and we ended up laughing so hard that nobody could explain to him why the whole thing was so funny.
