Manning simply doesn't take sacks. The ball comes out too quickly. Even teams with ferocious pass rushes can't get to him quickly enough.
I doubt Manning is sacked even once |

So all the pundits that say the only way to beat the Colts is to pressure Manning - are just completely insane? [/ QUOTE ] That theory was during the 2004 and halfway through the 2005 seasons. We saw how well that worked. On the game, I hate to say it, but the Colts will win this game...ugh. |

The way to beat Peyton Manning is hope they guys around him screw up. There were an inordinate number of dropped balls during their recent poor stretch, including 2 that Marvin Harrison turned into INTs.

Knock Manning down a few times, get in his face, get some happy feet going >>>> than not doing this.

You pretty much have to get him a little rattled. The Pats used to always throw odd sets at him. He seems over that now. Same with the Steelers game last year.

Knock Manning down a few times, get in his face, get some happy feet going >>>> than not doing this. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah but as a 4-3 defense blitzing your opening up parts of the field. Manning does enough film work that he learns how teams blitz. Hypothetical: Safety(call him Donovan Darius) inches up, Manning now sees he has 1-on-1 on a side of the field. Now this is where most QB's either get nervous or confused. They don't read the blitz correctly and look the one way that the free safety is sitting, easy interception or batted ball. If they read it correctly but don't get the ball off in time, its a sack. Manning almost always knows exactly what is going on and makes the line call. It's quite fun to watch, it just sucks that he has done it against the Jags time and time again. Once 3-4 teams realized Mannings and every other QB's main weakness they capitalized. This weakness is the 3-4 zone Blitz. It's by far the hardest blitz to read and any QB will get confused. How to beat Manning? Like Noodle said, his supporting cast better make mistakes. |

The Chiefs have Jared Allen but that's it. According to FO, they're ranked 28th in Adjusted Sack Rate, which adjusts for teams played and the number of passes they've faced. [/ QUOTE ] Wow, someone knows about FO? I'm proud. Anyway, the Colts were never as good as they looked during that 8-0 or whatever stretch they started the season on. Similarly, their recent losses doesn't mean they fail. They are what they are: a terribly flawed team with a horrendous run defense and special teams, but one of the best offenses in history. The Chiefs have a chance, but it hinges on Trent Green. If he doesn't slice up Indy, it will be tough for the Chiefs to consistently put up points, which they will need to do. Green's numbers are horrible since he returned, and while a major part of that was his competition -- he had a brutal schedule -- the benching of Damon Huard still looks quite silly. The Chiefs are going to do what every team does vs Indy: run them to death and steal some of their possessions. Less possessions = random bounces of balls can help an inferior team beat a better team. That's what will have to happen for the Chiefs. |
