Default Nut Hand: What\'s the best play?

20-40 blind game at commerce last night, the must move game was short until a guy who is a big donator sits down. I didn't intend on playing but saw the donator and hopped on the bus. I sit down w/ $5k, stacks range from $3-$30k. I had only been at the table for about 20 minutes and was up about $700. I'm 2nd to act and make it $160 to go w/ A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4 players call including the donator on the button who has around $20k. Flop comes:

K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

BB checks, I bet $240, everyone folds except donator who calls on the button. Turn 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], I bet $500, donator calls, River 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], what's the best play?

Fold he has 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

But seriously, I don't know about the Villain as you didn't give enough of a description. Is he overly aggressive and willing to bluff away his chips? Is he a donator cause he is a calling station?

Depending on those characteristics and others you could either check and hope he bets, or you could bet approx. 3/4 pot and hope he donks off some chips.

I agree - but what is with that flop bet size? From my count, there is $660 in the pot on the flop and you bet $240?

Donator aka calling station? Bet

Donator aka super aggro? Check

- If I don't have a read on a player I will check this river every time and give villain a chance to bluff at it.

I don't know if I can put a finger on what his biggest weakness is, but he definitely calls too much, plays too many hands, bluffs too much and just out-right gambles. I just know that he is known for dropping lots of money in big cash games. I'll put it to you like this... when he got moved to the main game last night, the must move game broke. Yes, I'm serious.

if he's such a donator why bet so small? any club most likely kills your action, so make him pay with his pair/two pair, or Q club, doesn't sound like he'll fold to a large turn bet or flop bet.

I also don't want to do anything stupid and bet too big to push him out of the hand when I know he has a club in his hand. Maybe he puts me on let's say AK with no club and he thinks his draw to a 7 or something might be good. I'm just praying for a club on the river but I want him there with me.

DJ,

I still don't understand your small bets. There's $800 in the pot, you have $5500 behind, and you bet $240? Yuck.

Anyway, as it is, there's $2300 in the middle and you have $4800 behind. I guess I'd bet $1500 here, and make it look like you really hate that club so he puts you allin with no club.

I agree with you with the flop bet, I should have probably made it $440 to go at least, I just didn't want to discourage anyone with a medium club from taking one off on the flop to draw dead hitting a club. I was also hoping to get multiple callers with my bet, whereas 1 person might call a 1/2 pot bet instead of a few calling a cheap bet for a possible cheap draw.
