The other ironic twist I thought of, after perusing the high stakes forum... you are playing 5/10 and 10/20... and Pokerbob is going to play 100/200... just seems odd.

[/ QUOTE ]

PokerBob plays very well, regardless of the image he has created on this fourm.

The people who play with me insist I'm playing well. At least most of the time.

I thought so. Your rivering skills suck on two fronts: (a) getting there and (b) having them not get there.

I'm usually very anti-conspiracy theory, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe this is something to consider. Usually occam's razor allows us to quickly dismiss most tinfoil hat explanations, but in this case it might actually support it.

Everyone who knows him (I have have no idea personally) seems to agree that BK is not only a winning player, but an extremely good one. No one has done the math (at least not in this thread), but there seems to be a consensus that despite his sample size, the chances of this being sheer bad luck is very, very low.

If there was even a small amount of collusion (human or bot) going on in the games that he plays, it could be enough to swing him into being a loser, at least part of the time. With the sort of small edges that a player like BK would push, having 2 or 3 players at the table see each other's cards and adjust appropriately could easily be enough.

That collusion, combined with a normal bad run of cards (say something that would normally create a ~300BB downswing), could account for these massive losses.

I still think that the chance of there being large-scale collusion is very small, but is it greater than the chance that a good player could run this bad for this long?

It doesn't take much to swing 1.5bb/100h into -0.5bb/100h,

barring a complete meltdown like tilting your ass off for thousands and thousands and thousands of hands, this is a ridiculous thing to say. guy has supplied a huuuuge sample size with a stellar winrate.

I quoted this reply, and the claims of bad luck to a friend of mine.

His reply:

[ QUOTE ]
he's unlucky to have a site of wannabe tards telling him he's still good.
the game has changed!!!!

bicyclekick was always the one i held up though as the model for how ridiculous this time is
he sucked, his posts sucks, yet he won in the 15 game which was big at the time
that was a big part of me making the drive to get up there
he sucked, and he won
so i got enough to play, and i won

[/ QUOTE ]
bk can listen to whoever he wants, and I hope he listens to the people who tell him he's great.

Schadenfreude ist die schönste Freude.

(And if he listens to me, and it turns out that he is great and the unluckiest poker player on the net, the worst case scenario is that he will have rethought his game, and likely added to his true winrate. Not too terrible, really.)

Hey BK,

I feel like I should have something to add to this, as I have gone through similar lately, and your poker talents far exceed mine. (yes kids, when BK is at a table he usually is the top 1 or 2 player there). Unfortunately I don't have anything to add of any worth. Just empathy I guess.

Quickly joining you in online busto,

Matt
