2006 Super Bowl Review:

Lame pregame hype
Lame pregame show
Lame teams
Lame commentary
Lame halftime show
Lame officiating
Lame MVP

Worst Super Bowl ever.

I take it this is the first superbowl you've watched.

[Yes, he was wrong. They obviously had plenty of luck left for the Superbowl. Pittsburgh was decently outplayed.

Gotta love Cowher. Wins his first Super Bowl and the scowl returns thirty seconds later when he can't find Holmgren for the post-game handshake.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was hoping someone noticed this.

It's custom for the losing head coach to come out to the center of the stadium to shake hands with the winning one. I am guessing Holmgren decided not to in protest of the officials. His postgame comments should be fun to hear.

I can think of at least 3 plays that Seahawks got jipped on:

Roethlisberger TD
Holding when Stevens caught a pass to get to the 3rd yard line
Hasselbeck illegal hit

I agree the Roethlisberger TD shouldn't have been overturned, but it sucks that it was called a TD in the first place, especially because the judge said it was not a TD initially.

The second play is a LOT bigger than the announcers were making it out to be. They couldn't find a hold and I was hoping during a commercial they would point out where a hold was on that play. If it wasn't called, Sea would have 1st and 3 and it was 14-10 at that point.

[/ QUOTE ]

Also;

- just after the Int/penalty, on third and 2 there was a clear hold right in front of the ref where Roethlisberger ran.

- The delay of game of Pitt's final drive where they were able to call time out.

However, The seahawks also shot themselves in the foot by;

- Stevens dropping 3 easy catches, all for first downs, and all which ended up instead as punts or missed FG's.

- 2 or 3 other dropped catches.

- Tom Rouen being absolutely worthless in the punting game. Seriously, they would have been better off with the 13 y/o kid that won the punt/pass and kick any year in the past 20, girls included. HOW HARD IS IT TO ANGLE A KICK OUT OF BOUNDS IN A 20 YARD AREA?

- Holmgren's play management at the end of both halves was abysmal. What is it with these lookalike NFC coaches (Reid and Holmgren) that can't handle a 2 minute drill in the biggest games of their careers?

- They threw, by my estimation, 8 25+ yards in the air passes before the end of the game, and only coming CLOSE to completing one twice. Standard operating procedure for them seemed to be 2-3 quick, efficient first downs, 2 yard run on 1st down, 30 yard incompletion, Stevens drop, punt/miss FG. Rinse and repeat.

Seriously though, I would hope the people who thought Pitt would kill Seattle don't think that Pitt proved their point by winning by 11. Any true knowledgeable football fan knows that the Seahawks easily deserved to win this game as much as Pitt did, if not moreso. The Seahawks weren't NEAR outclassed, and if either they don't get jobbed on those calls, or they just don't make the mistakes I pointed out, they win the game, and relatively easily. This is the first SB I can think of where if you looked at 95% of the game, you'd think the losing team won easily.

In the interest of full disclosure, I lost $$$ on this game betting on Seattle.

Grain of salt offered.

Congrats Steelers though.

Although we obviously couldn't hear it, it is possible (likely) that he verbally requested the timeout before he made the signal.

The regular season MVP was a no show. Anyone know if he is planning on staying with Seattle? No contract yet last I heard.

Agreed on these points. Rouen's punting was a disappointment, couldn't even pin them on the 10 once?

Try unlikely. He turned as soon as he saw clock expire and called it. I'm not positive if verbal only by players as a play is going or about to be snapped is possible anyways without full visual contect to ref. It seems this could sorta be abused by snap count, and it is rife for mistakes otherwise too. Could easily be legal though.

Sure, the Seahawks could have won this game even despite the officiating.

But you can't argue that
1) Seattle outplayed Pitt overall in this game.
and
2) Without the bad calls, Seattle was very likely to win.

Everyone knows neither of these teams were that great. You can't expect a team like that to overcome poor officiating. You just can't.
