Default How to play an overpair

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to NL and so far it hasn't been my thing. I'm down about 15 buy ins after 50K hands, it even put me down for the year .

I have a question about playing overpairs. Today I got stacked about 10 times with AA, KK, QQ or AK. Here's an example.

Say I'm at the button with KK in a 2/4 NL game and we all have $400. There is one limper and I raise it to $18. The BB calls as does the limper. So there is about $56 in the pot and the flop comes Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. I bet out $40 and it gets raised to $120. What do you do? Fold? Call? Raise? All-in?

What if it's raised to $80? What about a Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] flop? If you call and they bet big again on the turn, now what? If you raise how much?

I know, a lot of questions but I have no clue how to play these hands after today. Sometimes I went all in today and almost every time they had a set. When I call they keep betting and end up losing most of the time. So please help me out!

Thanks,

Guido

I normally stack off in these spots. Reads would definitely be helpful though. Hand two if you get raised on the flop it's an incredibly easy push because it's such a drawy board.

Board texture + your own and villain's image is key. Nits should be able to get away from overpairs a lot of the time, more aggro players can allow themselves to felt it more often.
