Also, NBA is not shown in every country and basketball isn't even that popular in South America and Asia afaik. I've never even seen him play.

DN [/ QUOTE ] Once you throw in picture recognition there is no way this is true. I could not recognize his picture, and I would be shocked if more than half the population in Norway could. (Norway is obviously a tiny country, but it would be weird if it was only here he wasn't huge.) I'm not saying Pelé is the right answer, though. I would go with Beckham or Tiger Woods. (for sports only) For most famous overall, G.W. Bush is a logical pick. Some of you are very American. Neal Armstrong, Howard Sterne and Walt Disney? Are those jokes? And wtf is Dubya?

This is not the right answer, but considering some of the answers in this thread, i'm just mentioning his name as i haven't seen it yet, and he's pretty famous.
Nelson Mandela plus if you google "most famous person in the world" his (and david Beckham's) is the first image up.

My vote is Jackie Chan.
Everyone in China knows him, most people in Asia know him, probably not many Indians or Africans, but most of Europe and North American do. He's got to be known by 2.5 - 3bn people.
