[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] what is a 60 wedge? pitching wedge? [/ QUOTE ] 60 degrees of loft on the face of the wedge. it's also called a lob wedge. I can't hit mine more than 40 yards or so, because i find that the harder i swing the less distance i get, it just goes higher in the air. for reference, a pitching wedge is 54 degrees, sand wedge is usually 56-58. My uncle has a "Tom Watson wedge" that is 64 degrees. [/ QUOTE ] you should be able to hit your 60 110yds ez controllin ball flight by movving it back in your stance (the tiger woods stinger) your problem is your "hitting" the ball and have an outside in swingpath which increase the effective loft of the wedge. by the time you make caontact your 60 is an 80. [/ QUOTE ] You'd have to see his swing, really. Could be on path or inside with a reverse weight shift, but I agree most likely steep over-the-top. Most people I know who can hit a lob wedge 110 yards are smart enough to throttle back a bit. That kind of distance often makes for too much of a distance-control gap on scoring clubs, thus less accuracy. I'm thinking about a normal swing though, not a pinched/punched back-of- the- stance shot on a low trajectory. [/ QUOTE ] if he has a reverse weight shift he will be hitting a majority of his shots fat or thin because he will be trying to mak contact on the upswing. |

[/ QUOTE ] same as poker. ive read everything but learned on my own. my problem w/ instructors is this; THE BEST of them were dudes who started golfing at 18 months old, were failed mini tour types who because of some personal flaw and no other skills became instructors/head pros/equipment salesmen who never leave the driving range (the worst of them are just loser hacks). they have serious skills, better than me, but they have no idea how to transfer them. so many times these guys have given me advice that makes no sense, its just, "what they do". |

I've never played a round of golf in my life. I've only hit buckets of balls at a range about 7-to-10 times, last time was about 12 years ago (I think I can hit a ball about 140 yards, maybe up to 190ish, maybe a little less, I just don't quite remember). [I Played some miniature golf 30 years ago, probably 40 or more games, won more than my share]
Question: If I wanted to play Tiger Woods an 18 hole round of golf for cash, what kind of deal would I have to get him to agree to for me to have a decent chance of collecting the amount we bet?

When you make a long drive bet, who goes first? I am assuming the ball must be in the fairway to count.
Have not heard you mention closest to the pin bets. You make these? You say you are self-taught and not from a golfing family. How did you get into golf? |

[/ QUOTE ] how much is alot of money to you? 1000, 10000, 50000? all are a penny to TW. get on his good side and bet him 10k you can beat him heads up. he starts from the back tee you start from the fringe. when you get better/win a few start from a bunker of his choosing, then the red tees, once he starts to get annoyed lose 40% of the time from a comfortable start. if he likes you you could do this for decades. |

When you make a long drive bet, who goes first? I am assuming the ball must be in the fairway to count. IT DOESNT MATTER. I ASSUME YOU "KNOW" WHOS GOING TO WIN. SOMETIMES YOU'RE BETTER OFF LOSING. Have not heard you mention closest to the pin bets. You make these? ALL THE TIME You say you are self-taught and not from a golfing family. How did you get into golf? I WAS THE POOR KID WHO LIVED UP THE STREET FROM THE GOLF COURSE. I WORKED AS A BALL PICKER/CLUB REPAIRER/GREENSKEEPER/PRACTICE MY ASS OFF HARDCORE GOLF HUSTLER (WITH A SMILE), I NEVER SAW A GOLFCLUB UNTIL I WAS 16 WHICH IS TOO LATE UNLESS YOU ARE NICK FALDO (WHICH I AM NOT) [/ QUOTE ] |
