What, the average OOT poster is better informed than this group ?

[/ QUOTE ]

You mean the morans that came up with this nonsense?

Lion (Panthera Leo) vs. White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simium)
Winner: LION
Animal Face-Off experts are divided about the winner of this unlikely contest, in part because no king of the jungle in his right and regal mind would attack a male rhino in the prime of its life. Heavily armored and built low to the ground, the rhino would be somewhat invulnerable to the attack of a single lion, which is normally a pack hunter. But if the fast and agile lion could inflict several bites, it could prevail.

It's not just about being informed, it's about being able to use that info...

That said, average OOTiot v. DC experts, I'd probably lean slightly toward the DC guys. But, I'd take above-average Ootiots over the DC experts more often than not.

"Well, if we give the hippo opposable thumbs and the ability to lift his leg more than 2 feet off the ground you'd have a point. However, if we're playing magic animals, I'll just make my tiger fly."

My hero.

Surprised to see Tiger taking Hippo. Don't think most of you realise how fast and strong hippos are. They can run as fast as a tiger AFAIK. However, the small size of the playing area favours the tiger, as he has greater flexibility and movement. Make it a 1 mile enclosed circle and the tiger is drawing dead. Even in the 100 foot circle I can't see him winning. Hippos are enormous with tough tough skin. No way a tiger can take it down.

Default 3 out of 4 seem to be doing OK

But choosing Lion to prevail over Rhino in their head-to-head shows how little people know of the two animals' relative strengths.

If only they had Rhino King out.

The thinking with the tiger is that he is much more flexible/agile and that the hippo's main methods of attack should be fairly avoidable by the tiger. The hippo has the choice between trying to charge him down or biting him. The tiger should be able to evade these; he's as fast and much more agile; I'd say he could run rings around the hippo. While the tiger can't deliver any kind of one-off killing attack that the hippo can, and could easily get squished if he makes a mistake, if he's quick he can repeatedly use his claws to inflict pain and damage and should be able to get the hippo's back a few times. Eventually the hippo will succumb.

That's the thinking anyway. Some of us are also biased towards tigers.

Didn't any of you play Hungry Hungry Hippos when you were younger?

Man, those hippos eat marbles! The lion is no match!

You have the Hippo's tactics all wrong Nicky. The Hippo is notgoing to run after the tiger. He is gonna rope-a-dope him. Tiger had to be ultra careful with his strikes, and will wear himself out looking for an opening. Even if he has a few successes, they will not deplete the Hippo much. The Tiger will tire and slip up. One kick to the head and the Tiger is KOed. You really think the Tiger can finish the Hippo without getting hit once?

A hippo can easkly weigh almost 9000 lbs, yes NINE THOUSAND POUNDS.
The smaller kind of rhino (black rhino), which is the more agressive kind, can easily weigh 3000 lbs, yes THREE THOUSAND POUNDS. And can run at 30 mph.

So y'all who chose the big cats need to think again.

Oh no!! Not again!
