I think you are naive to believe any poker opponent in a situation like this.
Your line was intelligent in that it showed some thought and was not the obvious line of play. I think check-raising all-in on the flop is the right move. Leading out is probably OK also.
Looked at another way, if you played check-raised all-in one hundred times and someone called with the naked Ace one hundred times, would you have made more money or not? The fact that a Diamond came on the river this one time is not all that relevant.
In my opinion, since this is not a tournament, the long-run cash EV is all that matters.
