I won the stars Sunday lottery. And it propelled me to Limit Superstardom. Or the 20/40 tables at least. I was slowly working my way up the Limit ladder, but the big score allowed me to move up to 15/30 much more comfortably. Although, I was full-time 15/30 at that point, but this added much appreciated cushion room.

[ QUOTE ]
I've actually been thinking about making a prop bet on things like this. Let's say I have 5 days to turn $200 into $5,000. If I can find people willing to bet against me, there is a good chance something like this will happen in the near future. [/ QUOTE ] why not do this every 5 days. you would make ~350k a year, or is that not enough incentive? |

eat $40 sushi dinners, etc. [/ QUOTE ] Mmmmmmm. The only real indulgence I've permitted myself until I buy a house in the next few years is sushi. I agree that going nuts with your money is retarded, but not rewarding yourself with small luxuries (that are afforded thanks to poker) is IMO counterproductive for a winning player. Dan |

Oops, re-read my post and it didn't read the way I meant it. I, of course, did not stay at .50-1 the whole time. I actually ran at around 8 BB/100, then moved up to $1-2 SH when I had a bankroll for it, ran really hot, etc. etc. etc. Yes, grinding up $200 to $12,000 playing JUST .50-1 LHE in a month in a half is not what I meant. But that was my starting game.

being profitable is an incredibly different thing than being able to run a small bankroll up to the 100k necessary to be fully rolled for medium-large games
i have many (10+) young college friends that are profitable poker players and that play a ton, but noone is at ~100k yet except me and one other person |

if you had 100k USD when you're in your early 20s and threw it in an indexed mutual fund for 40 years with an average return of 11.83% you'd have 8.7 million dollars. this is without adding anything to it. (11.83% is based on the past 30 year return of the DJIA)
so for people who think that you need money to invest you're wrong. people NEED to start young and have something to fall back on. |

[ QUOTE ]
Personally, if I had to start all over again with just $200, I think I would play the $6 turbo SNGs on stars. If my bankroll dropped below $120 or so, I would move down to the $3 sngs there. I don't think I would have any problem doing this mentally. [/ QUOTE ] I built my roll doing this. The $6.50 turbos are cake too. Now I need to get a part time job and stop living off poker so my roll can grow faster. |

<----$20 into $150,000 in 6 months
I was bankroll broke, borrowed $20 from a friend to buy into a local 7 person tourny. I won for net $120. The next day I deposited $100 into party, put $50 into a .5/$1 table and $50 on another. I never looked back. I now 6-table 10/20 NL. |
