I'd like to be able to beat 200NL and feel as confident as I do at 100NL. So like 6ptbb/100. I only 4 table but that would still be a pretty good hourly rate. I like my job and wouldn't quit even if I was making a lot of money playing poker, but $5gs a month would be outstanding. Hopefully move up and beat 2/4 over the next year or so. It would be great if eventually I could save up enough to put a nice big downpayment on a house from poker winnings. Keep in mind I don't want or plan to play more than 20 hrs a week and probably less.

Don Key,

What's your job?

To make enough in the next year (~30k from now until next August) to be able to buy a house in Argentina and support myself there playing poker and capitalizing on the low exchange rate. Sell that investment once it appreciates, repeat at another country with a low exchange rate.

That brings up a question. I've got basically November-July to play, can spare about 20 hours per week if I need, bringing me up to ~ 20h/w x 9m x 4wk/m = 720 hrs. So I need to make about 30,000/720 = $42/hour.

Can someone break down for me how feasible this is? Keep in mind my roll will start very small ($100-$200), and I can only beat the 25 NL at FTP with confidence right now. I am, however, devoted to learning, and I've started breaking down the game lately in pursuit of this goal. Could someone give me a reasonable time frame for moving up limits and the amount I would make in each span of time to reach the goal? I've played a ton of hands of poker (probably near 100k), but I've just never scrutinized the game like I am now, so I expect to learn pretty fast.

If anyone could PM me some sort of reasonable time frame, or just the opinion that this goal is pretty impossible, each would REALLY help me out. Thanks.

$42/hr is easy multi-tabling. Are you really just moving to other countries for their exchange rates??

I'd like to get good at playing poker.

One measure of goodness is money. That's convenient, because money is nice. But I'll never be a guy trying to 12 table SSNL, trading winrate for dollars. I know that's -EV, at least in the short term, but I don't really care.

It's a hobby.

[/ QUOTE ]

how would you be trading winrate for dollars? The higher the winrate the higher the dollars.

I've always liked to play and compete, so poker suits for me. I basically don't play anything else with my computer anymore, and I've totally lost interest in games that are -EV by nature so poker has replaced other somewhat bad habits in my life.

As a poker player I'm mostly interested in the hourly rate, and if I couldn't get that high enough I would prolly quit. I have a nice job and co-workers are also cool guys, so for me poker is a way to relax and get some extra to spend - it's not gonna be my main income. I only 4table, so at 200NL I'm quite satisfied if I get my hourly rate >= $80. At FPT that something like 6PTBB/100. It's true that 200NL has gotten much more aggressive at FTP, but seems like many TAGs there can't handle that and are playing reraised pots with trash and tilting and stacking easily. Soooo, the games are not that bad.

My goal with poker is to sit down at a table and stack snowbank who always seems to 3bet. I want to call him down with 9 high and take his stack...

I'd be quite happy playing no higher than $100NL, if there were somehow a league system, allowing you to choose players of your own skill level. It works quite well for other games but until someone comes up with a system for poker, I guess I'll have to keep trudging up the ladder until I'm making $100's an hour. It's a hard life

[/ QUOTE ]

No, it's not. There are a lot of tables at 100NL where you play against a bunch of paranoid people. You can easily degrade table selection, and play difficult tables.

But I guess you are not serious, who wasn't like to make some extra money while having fun?
