My daughter (5 years old) always asks for Chow Mein and pot stickers. My wife always gets lemon chicken.

The Chinese should computerize their ordering systems. There are few greater daily pains than talking to their restaurant workers on the phone.

reading this thread made me depressed about what people think good chinese food is. my 3 menus would be:

1. salt/pepper pork, spicy prawns(same sauce as Gen.Tsuo's chckn), dry braised string beans, dumplings, hot/sour soup

2. salt/pepper shrimp, sea bass/tofu/black mushroom clay pot, whatever vegetable is fresh

3. pork dumplings, jampong(sp?) noodle soup, dry fried fish and or dry fried chicken wings, sauted spinach w/ garlic or maybe peashoots or whatever vegetable is fresh

and if only one dish for take out: oyster beef gi mein

Ok, now that you have been given the entire Chinese restaurant menu, I'm sure you can make a choice.

actually, the broccoli beef over hong kong style noodles is something that usually isn't on the menu. you have to order it by name (it's pretty standard, and any cantonese joint will be able to make it for you).

Hey Daryn,

Any tip for a good chinese food place in Boston, preferably one close to Brighton? I just moved into the city and I tried a few random ones from fliers and got absolute crap every time. Maybe just a fluke, but 3 of 3 were bad, so I haven't ordered out Chinese in a while.

For a place outside of Chinatown,
Victoria Seafood Restaurant
1029 Commonwealth
Boston
617-783-5111

This place is excellent. Seriously, anyone who lives close should try it.
