i have not read any of the below responses. so others many have already explained why you lose value by folding.

if you call, five of you are all in. therefore, if you win more then 20% of the time you show a profit. with aa you certainly win more then 20%. you are maximizing your expectation by calling. however, you also increase your fluctuations. if you can't afford short term swings i guess you can fold. but calling here shows a nice profit over your poker career, and is the correct play.

NEVER do that again; fold pocket Aces or tell the table what you did when there is money involved! I hope the above flames are a good lesson to you.

True story.
Foxwoods $5/$5 no limit.
A guy comes to the table with $1000(minimum is $500, no cap, most bring $5k or more, big stack usually has 20k+)
and after ten hours or so builds his stack up to over 8k.
His wife walks by and says "We're going to leave in 15 minutes or so." and he says ok. A few hands later someone makes it $25, and he makes it $100 fold back to raiser, who makes it $500, the guy goes $1000 and the other guy immediately says all in, he has him covered.
After about five minutes(which is a LONG time) of deliberation, he turns over pocket aces and says "It's just not worth it." and folds.

To illustrate how stupid people are, there is much debate over whether or not this is a good play. Mostly from middle aged men who play their hands according to what the flop has been coming up.

I like that story, I read this post and thought immediately that There is no way I would ever fold aces preflop in a cash game.
My bankroll is 4.6K, I only play 25c/50c NL. Because I can handle bad beats. If I built up my stack from $50 to $300 I would still happily put that percentage of my bankroll in the pot this situation.

But If I was playing outside of my means, say on vacation, and worked up a $500 into a 5K stack would I think twice if this situation came up? Probably, you shouldnt gamble with somthing you can't stand to lose.

So In hind site I think his fold was correct.
He should fold the hand, immediately leave the table and move down in stakes to a level he is confortable enough to play properly and handle variance.

Sitting at the table in the first place was his biggest mistake.

Stop being so results-oriented. It was a good fold.

This is probably one of the most controversial topics in NL Texas Holdem.

You can fold AA comfortably in certain sattelite siuations where you are on the bubble with a large stack and waiting for a short stack to go to assure yourself a win. You find yourself up against another big stack who is prepared to go all the way against you.

Other than that the only time I can think of is if you were playing against opponents and you could see all their cards. A number of players go all in before you. There are some hand distributions where you will no longer be a favourite given the pot odds offered. Such siuations probably never happen though so it is hypothetical.
