You're flattering yourself. You identified a very special theoretical condition where David's criteria MIGHT NOT apply

The burden is on him as it is his proof. I showed several escapable paths. It is for him to shut the door. Note, I did not say "disprove". I said, "This statement cannot be accepted as always true without further qualification"

Sorry Dominic

that's okay, since I have no [censored] clue what you guys are talking about.

[/ QUOTE ]Carryover from a different thread. I find David's whole, "your ranked....." thing very distasteful, disrespectful and retarded so I like to needle him. Sorry about the mini hijack.

However, I am very curious as to your answer to the question I posed to you. Your original comments seemed to slant away from religon and not away from a god.

Stephen Roberts:
I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.

Seneca the Younger 4 b.c.- 65 a.d.:
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.

Blaise Pascal:
Men never commit evil so fully and joyfuly as when they do it for religious convictions.

Emo Philips:
When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realised that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me.

Bertrand Russell:
And if there were a God, I think it very unlikely that He would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence.

George Bernard Shaw:
The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one.

Doug McLeod:
I still say a church steeple with a lightning rod on top shows a lack of confidence.

Unknown:
Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned.

Epicurus:
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Carl Sagan:
You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep-seated need to believe.

Steven Weinberg:
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Unknown:
Blind faith is an ironic gift to return to the Creator of human intelligence.

and for those of you who still think the United States of America was founded as a "Christian nation"

Thomas Jefferson:
I have examined all the known superstitions of the world, and I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology.

do you really find all of these statements persuasive and worthy of your acceptance? probably the sagan one made me laugh the most, but it is tough to choose. none of them really made me think too deeply.

'conformity is the hobgoblin of simple minds' - that is my new smp mantra

religion is a crock and i despise it, although some practioners do seem to be able to take the good things they do learn and do good things with them.

As for God, I have no idea whether there is or isn't one. Neither does anyone else.

'our true understanding of the basic foundations of the universe is zero'

at least this latter part of your response shows intellectual honesty and truth. as for the first part, why do you believe the 'God defined by religions' is 0% correct. you are a man of probabilities, right?- how are you ONE HUNDRED PERCENT convinced. this is absurd to me - to be this assured that all religions are false, yet to believe wholeheartedly (lest you've had a change of heart)in traditional atheistic evolutionary theory. it is hard to really take anything i read on these forums with anything other than a hearty (neigh- distressed and disheartened) laughter. the majority here is so distorted and unreceptive to legitimate logical challenge it is laughable

[ QUOTE ]
why do you believe the 'God defined by religions' is 0% correct

[/ QUOTE ]Because I can wash it away with evolutionary history. I dont mean in the traditional sense that evolution defines how the world we live came to be. Rather, I mean to explain why we believe in religon in the first place. Our belief in religon ties in beautifully to the survival and propogation of the species. ie, - religon can be explained away.

[ QUOTE ]
how are you ONE HUNDRED PERCENT convinced

[/ QUOTE ]You are correct. I cannot be. However, the odds are practically zero. However, any movement off of zero has more to do with an undetected flaw in my logic than it has to do with unknown information.

[ QUOTE ]
yet to believe wholeheartedly (lest you've had a change of heart)in traditional atheistic evolutionary theory.

[/ QUOTE ]I think evolution is simply a small unimportant piece of the puzzle. I believe we havent even begun to explore the key pieces yet. I would explain more but it is late and I am only up so I can place some sports bets when the lines are correct.

[ QUOTE ]
the majority here is so distorted and unreceptive to legitimate logical challenge it is laughable

[/ QUOTE ]Fire away.
