Tell that to the families of the 3 people killed last week in Jersey. The driver blew a .09 and said he had 3 beers. (Granted I know he was probably lying about 3 beers, but that's what he said).

Not to sound like the dick here, but who's to say the accident wouldn't of happened if he was stone sober? The fact is any accident where alcohol is involved it's just instantly assumed that the alcohol was the reason that it happened. Obviously this is sometimes the case, but not always.

So you are saying it's normal to accelerate in the fast lane and not see the car in front of you and rear end it?

[/ QUOTE ]

For me no, but for the rest of the retards on the road maybe. People look at their cd player, answer their phone and all sorts of other things that take their eyes off the road and make something like this possible. Who am I to say what caused the accident? I wasn't there, but to say that it was the booze, and not some other distraction is just stupid. Sober people get in crashes too, and whatever they're doing at that time to cause it isn't "normal", but it still happens.

Listen, this whole discussion is retarded. I know I can out-drink 99% of you tough-guy college kids, as far as amount of liquor consumed:having good motor skills, Im a functioning alcholic, but that doesnt mean I would ever get behind the wheel after having 4-5 drinks in an hour, its just too easy to do the smart thing, and say I did have 4 drinks in an hour, which as far as Im concerned is nothing, Id be sober, and god forbid something randomly happened, even though I know I was sober, and the accident wasnt caused from booze, Id still feel super guilty and bad about it. Its just not worth the hassle, if you cant afford a cab ride, you guys should finish your Smirnoff Ice's at home.

You are right, people do all these things. Now add alcohol to the mix and it lowers your reaction rate. Now do you understand my point as to why you shouldn't drive when you are drinking? Driving is dangerous enough as it is, don't compound it by adding alcohol to the mix. Hell, if it were up to me, there would be zero tolerance when it comes to having alcohol in your system if you are driving.

Let me ask you this, if you knew a pilot was drinking while he was flying a 747 with 200 passengers, would you be OK with that if he was "only" drinking 2 or 3 beers an hour?

I'd guess that the fact that the driver was young had a lot to do with it. The average 19 year old completely sober driver is far more dangerous to himself and others on the road than myself after 3 beers.

guids,

We all play poker online, we can afford to finish our Dom at home.

All,

When I was in highschool, I was driving a girl home at around 1:30 AM. It was a divided highway, so I was doing about 60 in a 55 and approaching an intersection with the highway that was controlled by a light. The light was green, so I wasn't slowing. Maybe a few feet before I got to where the white line is painted at the intersection, a minivan on the crossing street pulls out in front of me. Of course no time to stop, and I slammed into him at almost full-speed. I checked on the girl, and then looked up to see the minivan driving away. I went in a rage and proceeded to actually chase him.

I lost him over a hill, but knew there was a police station maybe 500 yards up the road. The officers there told me to return to a gas station near where the accident occured. So I turned around and started to head back. It turns out the other guy pulled off onto a side road just on the other side of the hill, and I saw brakelights just off the highway and thought I'd stop to see if it was him. It was, and I confronted him (I was 17, and thus, an idiot). I could smell the booze on him from 5 feet away, and also noticed he had a child in the van with him. He kept repeating, "Are you going to call the cops? Don't tell the cops, man." I told him I was heading back to this gas station, and extricated myself from the situation immediately, and went to the gas station. I was talking to the police there, and while I was giving my report, one of the officers interrupted me and said, "Is that the minivan?" I turned around and, sure enough, the minivan with its [censored]-up rear end was slowly cruising by. The cops ran to their car, peeled out in reverse, and chased him down.

These facts were supplied by the police report:

The driver failed field sobriety and was taken to the station, where he blew a .22. When asked to stand on one foot, he fell over. When asked to touch his nose with an outstretched finger, he poked himself in the opposite eye. He claimed to have been at a bar earlier in the night, after which he picked his son up from his ex-wife's before heading home. He admitted to fleeing the scene of the accident. He had no insurance (in Missouri, a mandatory-insurance state).

My car was totalled, despite its ability to chase this guy down the highway. I separated my left shoulder (where the seat belt crosses) but decided to play football that season anyways. The doctor said that every time I got hit on that shoulder, it would likely separate the joint again. The girl I was driving had some sort of injury to her torso, and had to sit out the girl's volleyball season.

Ha, highways with stoplights.

Anyway, Klompy: "There's just way to many stupid things you can get pulled over for late at night that could lead to you getting in trouble."?????????????????

What the [censored] is wrong with you? You know, if you don't drive drunk, you don't do stupid things, and then you don't get pulled over. It's a fantastic system, I've had excellent results using it.

I was talking more about licence plate lights being out, licence plate being to dirty, all the stuff that doesn't involve your actual driving. Also I don't know exactly why you're yelling at me, I think we were both agreeing that not drinking and driving is the best system.
