My last time driving drunk was at eighteen. I was driving downhill on a dirt road in Anchorage, I tried to make a right, failed and jumped over a ditch and a bike path, plowed head on into a stump. Totaled the car and walked away with a bloody nose.
I was headed downtown, so I consider it a great outcome. I was seeing a girl who's dad was killed by a drunk driver at the time, it blows my mind that I was once dumber than I am now. |

When I was 21 ('01), my parents were on vacation for a couple weeks. So naturally, to me that meant that I could drive my mom's car (Acura RL). I was driving a '96 Civic at the time. But the thing I really loved about the RL was the Nav system. Freakin' awesome when you're loaded, you leave one party, and someone gives you an address for another party. One night during those two weeks, some friends were trying to follow me to the next party. Its about 3AM and I'm hammered, got a sealed fifth in the glove box, and I look down at the spedometer and its says I'm doing 110MPH on Victory Blvd. I end up partying 'til dawn, driving home, with one pee break on the side of the 210 freeway, and I sleep for an hour or two before going to umpire an 11AM high school baseball game in Valencia in the middle of July and its 110 degrees out and I have the plate.
I call the best game of my life. So yeah, that was a strange night. Just goes to show, drinking and driving isn't that bad, as long as you're careful. |

[ QUOTE ] Just goes to show, drinking and driving isn't that bad, as long as you're careful. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, but doing 110 mph is NOT being careful! Holy smokes. [/ QUOTE ] you're right, that was one of the dumbest things I've ever done. I was just telling the story as if it weren't that dumb to show how really dumb it was. I'd usually reply with some smart-ass remark, but this issue is serious enough, that I probably ought not send mixed messages. Drinking and driving is dangerous. It puts you and everyone else in harm's way. And you can get in a lot of trouble over it. I've done it many times, and am very lucky nothing bad happened. Many people's judgement gets very clouded after taking drinks, but I kind of feel like if you have something to hide, you're doing something wrong. So if there is a cop standing near your car not hassling you or anything and you didn't know your way around the neighborhood so well, would you be comfortable asking the cop for directions before getting in your car? If so, you're probably fine to drive. Or you are a complete ass. |

[ QUOTE ] I never drink w/ even a single drop of alcohol in me. A couple months ago, I got stoned, and a few hours later, I gave myself a sobriety test to see if I could drive. I tried to balance on one leg with my knee lifted and my eyes closed, and didn't fair well. I ended up just staying the night at my friend's house. [/ QUOTE ] Are you, by any chance, stoned at this very moment? [/ QUOTE ] lol |

I'm accustomed to driving after having 5-6 drinks in a 1-2 hour period. I would never drive after 7 though... that would be too many.

Considering that last weekend I got pulled over for suspected drunk driving while stone sober, I find it a good idea not to drink and drive. I'm not a very steady driver so I just stick to one drink per hour if I am going to drive.
