Over the past week, my computer's performance has degraded substantially. It runs slower, the CPU usage goes to 100% and stays there. Some applications don't work sometimes, I have to restart frequently to get them to work.
I've run my virus scan and adware software, it hasn't found anything. I'm almost sure I'm infected with something. I went to www.anti-virus.com and ran the free software there, still no good. Any help would be greatly apprecitated. |

Man do we need a lot more information. Like what programs are you running? If you bring up the Task Manager which program is sapping your CPU? If you boot in safe mode does it work fine?

It seems to be the worst when Internet Explorer is open. All I really do on this computer is play poker, surf the net and check email. The application that doesn't work most frequently and needs a restart is Outlook Express.
When I go in task manager, there are no programs open and the cpu usage seems to be unusually high. After a fresh reboot, it's not that bad, but after about a half hour or so, it gets worse. |

Try emptying your temporary internet files cache. After that go to "view objects" in your internet settings and tell me if any "unknown" activeX objects are displayed.

Please stop using internet explorer and try either Mozilla Firefox or Opera.
I use Opera personally, but Firefox is more popular. |

Do you have multiple instances of IEXPLORE.EXE in your processes list in the task manager?
