Just for people who don't know, the Senate uses a quorum call so that members can have private discussions. It's like calling a break, but without having to vote for a formal recess. So they call for a quorum call, which takes about 4 - 10 minutes, have their conversation, and just break off the quorum call when they are ready to continue.

It's not stalling or anything... they're probably just working out a few details on unrelated matters.

No time limits, especially in the Senate. They can go right through January if they felt like it. But they don't - they want to finish up, adjourn, and go home to campaign for the next few weeks.
