Plays like this are why I play sngs for a living. [/ QUOTE ] Well, look, moroni make similar plays frequently, and part of being a good player is recognizing that and picking off their bluffs. And I'm not saying this WAS a good play. It MAY have been a good play if Degen had a particular read. We don't really have enough information in the post. But I agree with everyone else's implication that anyone who plays below the 530s and maybe the 215s should just ignore this post. |

[ QUOTE ] I think the main question of this hand is can villain fold AJ here? Because your FE of a TP type hand is where your equity is going to come from on this hand. [/ QUOTE ] Only a fish would call w/ AJ right here. [/ QUOTE ] Holla at your boy fellas! This is the heart of it. I was going to post, DO YOU KNOW HE CAN LAY DOWN TOP PAIR! He pre-posts my answere with YES he can. If he has KJ, he is history. AJ, and he is sweating. Against a regular, then it is a play. If we knew the screen name, then that is diff... Nice play with a simple read. Pop an A on the board and you would insta fold right? |

I tried to put myself in the other players shoes for this hand. What exactly would you play this way? I limp, you raise preflop. I call. So you must put me on a reasonable hand, maybe a pp. Most likely a pp since I called your large raise. Knowing that I lead into you on this flop and you flat call? The only hand I can put you on is a set of a higher pp now. You clearly don't think I have 98 or kq. Def not kq. You either have Aces or a set. You would clearly raise in this spot with kk or qq. Knowing that, I think your play on the next street is a spew because you say he is solid. Why would he lead into you twice OOP on a stone cold bluff. That is a spew. Esp since you called. So for those reasons, I'm pretty sure he has a set, at the very worst two pair. So shoving I don't think will move him off of his range considering he bet into you twice OOP.

BB is Villain and he could reasonably call with various suited Broadway for example, hoping the original limper came along to get decent odds, if he knows Degen is LAGgy. But, the blindingly obvious hand for BB is JJ specifically. Now that I've defended Degen somwehat, I'm real curious if that's what Villain had... |

Solid regulars play AJ, KJ, QJ, AT, JT OOP facing a sizable raise? [/ QUOTE ] I don't think we've gotten a definition of 'solid regular', but I used to ASSUME that someone that played like THOUSANDS of $225+ sngs HAD to be a 'solid regular'. Sharkscope has changed my mind though. Some of the MOST regular players on Stars are also some of the biggest fish (their graph looks like the last days of Enron's stock chart). I get called all the time when the only thing someone could beat was a bluff. For THAT reason, and the fact that there isn't any real reason to get involved this early (if you show this down, it'll kill your FE even if you river trips), I'd have limped and folded. This isn't a cash game, it's a sng. They are just entirely different and small edges early just aren't worth the effort or risk (including the risk that your opponent is drunk or on life tilt). |

I think this is FPS and unquestionably a bad, bad risk reward. It being in a 530 does not change that it is spewage, just higher stakes spewage.
I just don't think the stacks are deep enough for your turn raise to generate the kind of folding equity you'll need to turn a profit on this play. |
