I can see Sen. Reid on the floor when he realizes the gambling legislation is inside some random conference report:

"Mr. DURBIN: Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent that Senator REID, the Minority Leader, be recognized for 5 minutes."

"Mr. COBURN (Presiding Officer): Without Objection, it is so ordered. The Senator from Nevada, Mr. REID, is recognized for 5 minutes."

"Mr. REID: zOMG RIGGED!!!11!11!! (fumbles with his mircophone for a moment and throws his lectern over in disgust/momentary rage) These donkeys across the aisle just push and push and push, even with the worst of it, when it comes to legislation. That they, and their evil friends in the Administration RIGGED this conference report, and used their pattern mapper to squelch debate and shut out minority participation is yet another example of...."

"Mr. FRIST: I ask unanimous consent to use 5 minutes of my leader time to respond."

"Mr. CHAMBLISS (Presiding Officer): Without objection, it is so orde- [loud crashing sounds from the floor interrupt him, Sen. REID, in a pique of fit about his party's minority status, is shouting "Second place! Second place! Disqualified for voting against ANWR! Second place!" in his finest Bill Fillmaff fashion]. The Senator will please suspend. [bangs gavel sternly] Order please in the Senate, will Senators please remove their conversations and bad beat temper tantrums to the Cloak Rooms. The Senator from Tennessee, Mr. FRIST, is recognized."

"Mr. FRIST: LOL!! U suck at legislating u n00b! STFU! UltimateFrist PWN3D ur sorry shortstack azz. I yield the floor and note the absence of a quorum, n00b."

"Mr. CHAMBLISS (the Presiding Officer, who can barely hold it together and whose face is turning much redder than its already normal red appearance with suppressed laughter): The clerk will call the roll..."

This would've been funny if I knew what pique, ANWR, Cloak Room, and quorum were.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. That post was fun to write, even if it makes no sense.

On a more official note, here's the Wednesday afternoon update:

CongressDailyPM is reporting that no deal has been reached yet on the prayer language, though the conference report is ready to go if a deal is reached. No mention of gambling, but no guarantee it isn't tucked in there. Chances that it is included seem to be approaching zero at this moment, but as I have said before nobody can be 100% sure until the report is signed and delivered to the House floor.

Here's an excerpt of the article:

"Meanwhile, leaders of the House and Senate Armed Services committees met privately late this morning to try to resolve major differences over a House provision that would allow military chaplains to pray in the name of Jesus Christ. The language on chaplains is widely considered to be the largest issue remaining for conferees on the FY07 defense authorization bill and the biggest single roadblock for lawmakers who hope to wrap up conference negotiations today. The House language states that military chaplains can pray "according to the dictates of the chaplain's own conscience, except as must be limited by military necessity, with any such limitation being imposed in the least restrictive manner feasible."

During their meeting, House Armed Services Chairman Hunter and Senate Armed Services Chairman Warner were expected to discuss a House package of proposals on chaplains and other remaining issues that Hunter sent to the Senate Tuesday night, aides said. Warner, who wants to shelve the House language on chaplains and instead hold hearings on the issue early next year, would not comment on the offer this morning. "We're working back and forth," Warner said before his meeting with Hunter."
