Prahlad's pocket pairs

Surprised noone has commented on the two perfect flops Prahlad got for his sevens and nines and managed to lose both hands. Granted he made a nice laydown when techno hits his straight, but weren't either one of these hands a better spot to reraise/make a stand than the A3??

i love shoving 50bb w/ 9s and 7s. post-flop plays are for cash game donkies and have no place in high buy-in tournaments.

Not saying shove, but it went check-check, check-check, then Gold raises the river and Prahlad folds his sevens. Why even call the raise preflop? Can you really expect to play a pot with the big stack and check it all the way down?

I think Gold led out on the flop. Also, I'm sure Prahlad makes that call all day long in most cash games against most opponents. It's a little different for 1/3 of your stack with 20 left in the ME.

If you're the type of player who thinks "OMG overpair = nuts", then yeah, Prahlad looks a little odd. Golds flop bet in the first hand could either be a continuation bet, or a higher pocket pair. The turn is just about the last card SR wants to see though. His river bet could either be the Ace that hit, or value betting a better PP. I mean, i commend Gold for the way he played it. Whether he read Prahlad for a mid PP or not, his line looked pretty standard for those holdings.

Not at all. Gold's river action with a mid PP would have been to c/c. And as aggressive and unimaginative as Gold had been playing, I don't think he goes for a c/r on the turn if he pairs AK/AQ. Based on his previous playing, he would likely have pushed in that scenario. The bluff worked, but it was not a good one.

I don't commend any of Gold's playing. After the cardplayer coverage, I wanted to wait and form an opinion about the guy based on what I saw on TV. Not only was the beneficiary of a sick heater that covered up his bad playing, but some of his table-talk was downright unethical. Aside from constantly talking about the strength of his hand with multiple people still left to act, the incident where told his Commerce buddy he WOULD NOT have called his all-in if he knew the guy was BEHIND is really offensive and I would have been very upset about that if I were at the table.

The call he made after the flop in the 99 hand made me want to puke. At that point he was no longer playing to win; he was playing to move up one spot in the money.

Gold did not lead that flop, in fact you could tell on Friedman's face he was not happy the Ace hit the turn and regretted not betting the flop.

I think it's unfair to criticize a player who's thinking about poker is way above yours or mine. He probably had a plan for that hand which backfired, I'm not going to critcize his play because he understands far better what is going on at that table than I do.

I thought while watching it that his plan was to pick off a bluff but that he lost his nerve to pull the trigger on the river, which is what he said afterward.
