So, how long does it take from the time the conference report is finished until it is available to look at? Will some news about what's generally in it be out before that?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, we'll probably get word of what's in there well before the text of the report is available. Expect more news later this evening and mid-day tomorrow.

Default Non-germane matters ? Who is part of the Conference ?

If an agreement is being hammmered out, how likely is anyone (other than Kyl/Leach/Goodlatte) really interested in tacking on clearly nongermane items in Conference ?

Do we know who is in Conference on this matter and anyone there likely to object to this particular piece of non-germane fluff ... like Senator Reid ?

Who are the Dems ?

Sen Warner, the former Mr. Liz Taylor, has been kicking up a fuss with his fellow Republicans and versus the White House on defense issues, is he likely to agree to a non-defense attachment to His Defense Appropriations bill ?

TY for the updates. Online gaming sector is up 6-10% across the board this morning and the Tradesports contract has been hit back down to its prior range, take it for what its worth.

There is a list of all the committe members in a recent post on this forum.

I'd say the outlook is decent at this point. Now by "decent" I mean no more than 50%, so it's still pretty scary.

It does seem like many of the committe members, including Republicans, are not going for any "nonsense" with this defense bill, which is of course a very good thing.

Among the most contentious provisions is House language that would allow military chaplains to pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Supported by several House conservatives, House Armed Services Chairman Hunter has said he will not back down on the issue, leaving little room for compromise with Senate Armed Services Chairman Warner, who opposes the language."

Now, that is a fight I'm looking forward to watching.

Editorial from Tennessee rag published this morning:

http://www.theleafchronicle.com/apps...609180301/1014

Summary: Anti-gaming, but averse to Frist's sleazy piggyback tactics. Obviously this paper doesn't carry much weight, but it's a good look at what his own constituents are thinking.

I find it amusing the editorial ends with "Our federal lawmakers need to decide if they are going to take a substantive stand against this form of vice or simply turn a blind eye as people throw their money away on a fool's bet." and then they provide a link to:

My guess is that the markets may well be reacting to the story in the industry publication that was posted here Friday PM. There's been no other news in the sector that I can identify, although it's been a fairly good day for equities overall.

Also keep in mind that something bad usually seems to happen right when things start quieting down.

but if the market is only reacting to friday's news, shouldn't the stock price jump up immediately in the morning and then stay flat? it climbed steadily until noon british time (and then bounced around a little).

The stocks were up about 2-3% almost immediately upon market open.

Beyond that, I don't know. I'm sure there has to be someone reading this who knows about the dynamics of working on a trading floor, or even day trading, and I'd love to get their take. The market processes news quickly, but not necessarily instantaneiously, particuarly when the news is ambiguous.
