Default How many young players out there actually make it???

How many players out there actually make it starting out with like 200 in their roll and working up to where they can play 1000 NL someday. I put in 200 bucks last week and got it up to 1000 and now am back down at 700 or so playing 25 NL, and with rakeback, should be around 1000 at the end of the month. Without winning a huge tourney (which I've tried to do unsuccessfully) is it possible to build your roll high enough to maybe make a nice second income someday, or is variance just too great??

i'm one of those kids. started with 50$ on pokerstars playing stud8. i was down to my last 7$ at one point. i am pretty sure i would have never gambled again if i lost that last 7. kind of funny now that i look back.

i honestly haven't had that much success. my lifetime winnings add up to 5 figures and have a way to go before they become 6 (though that is my goal for this year)

to answer your question a bit: the vast majority of players don't think about bankrolls or building up. so the answer is very very few (i am thinking less than 1% imo). though i bet a lot of the people that did not succeed just bought in for 50-100$ a few times. maybe they won a bit or maybe they lost. at any rate, it was never their goal to parlay that 100$ investment into a 10/20 bankroll.

If you work really hard, dont play over your head, and continue to try and learn and get better every day there is no reason why you can't be very succesful.

you've asked different questions.

is it possible to build your roll high enough to maybe make a nice second income someday??

Yes. It's definitely possible.

or is variance just too great??

No. Variance is not too great to accomplish this.

Variance can actually help you get there faster if you're one of the fortunate ones.

How many young players out there actually make it???

Quite a few.
But not nearly as many as those who don't make it.

Most fail, but you don't hear about them so much as the incredibly successful ones.

It seems like most of the success stories, ZeeJustin, Ozzy_87, Action_Jeff, they all one won huge tournies to get their roll started, and little do you hear about the guys like me who deposit 200 bucks and try to be patient and build up slowly moving up stakes. Hopefully I will be able to sustain the patience and do so. Does that ever work? Wouldn't it be so nice if I could win a huge tourney liek they all did, but hey, life sucks...

I think you'd have better luck building a 5 fig roll w/o MTT's.
