Default Anyone else keep telling to yourself you suck at poker?

Think I have finally figured out what causes me to tilt and finding the trigger has made it me much less tilty and im now able to quit in time.
In my case the trigger is when I say myself something like: Oh man you really suck at poker and couldnt even beat NL25. Or Why do you even bother playing this tourney when you are -ev and wont cash.

That's kind of [censored] I keep saying myself all the time, how do I get over it? And instead start telling myself how great I am and hom in gonna crush all the mofos.

Get Pokertracker and log 50k hands of 25NL. Then you'll know.

Forget winning and losing and just make good decisions.

If you can't beat the NL25 than perhaps your assessment is more realitic than not. It's very good to think positively and avoid negative thoughts, but it is also important to think realistically. Setting goals is good, but self acceptance is also critical to someone who wants to recognize where they're at. By doing that, you will know what the next best step is in order to attain your goal(s). (get better at poker, win MTTs etc.)

Well how do you do that? When playing I check the cashier balance every 5th minute just to see how im doing. And when I see im down I start to chase the losses.

Also despite of my title I have played for a while as pro and im decent amount of money up from NL 400 - NL2000 and 10 20 - 100 200 fixed. Still every time I start losing I start doubting myself. And often it happens even before I start playing. So sick stuff.. why cant I just ignore the money while playing and worry about it just when not playing.

I say it all the time usually after I do something stupid. Then I get on with playing unstupid.

Oh, I thought from your OP meant you really couldn't beat the NL25s and that it's no wonder you couldn't win MTTs.

Try Louise Hay's "How to Heal Your Life" in the abridged 2 tape set. It's all about stopping those kind of negative self-destructive thoughts.

It's called an "inner critic." Inner critics are terrific at sabotaging our intentional goals.

Psychologist Lane Arye writes about working with an inner critic in his book Unintentional Music: Releasing Your Deepest Creativity:

[ QUOTE ]
Have a chat with your inner critic. You can do this on paper, or out loud, as you prefer. The first step is to bring it out of hiding. Ask your critic what it does not like about you. This may unleash a furious barrage that may be hard to listen to, but don't be discouraged. You are only priming the pump, getting your critic comfortable by asking it to talk about its favorite subject. When it starts to run out of steam, or when you've had enough, shift the topic. ...

1. Ask your inner critic what it does not like about you.

2. Find out your critic's goals.

3. Ask your critic to help you meet those goals.

4. Don't take "no" for an answer. (Critics are lazy. Oh, yeah, they work overtime bugging you. But try to get them to do some real work, like help you with a creative project! Then they make all kinds of excuses and say it is your job.)

5. Criticize your critic. Tell it that if it were any good at ... clarity, beauty, whatever ... it could tell you more specifically what to do to meet your common goals.

6. Be merciless, just like your critic is -- don't give up until you have gotten the help you need.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's simple, but it isn't necessarily easy. The two toughest parts of this are (1) being able to hold a conversation with a particular part of yourself in the first place; and (2) standing up under the shower of vitriol a determined inner critic can spew at you.

Hope this helps.

Start by NOT looking at the cashier every five minutes.
