Update: You can just connect through Toronto if flying from London to Costa Rica.
Only $550 non-stop from London to Toronto seemed a decent price to me. Perhaps I'll do it!! Only $760 non-stop Toronto to Costa Rica. This is for my sorry self who would be flying coach of course...which I'm pretty sure guys like Carruthers would not be doing. |

I guess there's going to be some demand to get from London (and other cities) to Costa Rica without stopping over in the U.S. [/ QUOTE ] No problem for Dubya and the DOJ! If private jets become carriers of choice for gaming execs they'll just scramble F-16's on some terrorism grounds and create an unplanned stop in Miami or the Virgin Islands. |

According to this Forbes article, SportingBet did take phone wagers in the past.
http://www.forbes.com/2006/09/07/pet...acescan03.html I'm really hoping that this is more of a witchhunt of off-shore sports betting firms that accepted phone wagers. Quite frankly, ANY sportsbetting firm taking phone bets were/are morons, as that is a VERY clear violation of the Wire Act. I mean, it isn't even ambiguous. |

As a US citizen, I would ask my country to calmly look to the east and follow the guidance of the UK when it comes to gambling instead of a 37 year old law made when most folks still didn't have a color TV. As a mostly conservative voter, I respectfully ask my party to get off the moral/terrorist high horse and let folks have some fun with their own lives. [/ QUOTE ] |

[ QUOTE ] Obviously I don't agree with arresting the guy - but this isn't using "war on terror intelligence." People were arrested in this fashion before 9/11 and there is no reason that would change. [/ QUOTE ] According to press reports after David Carruthers was arrested, U.S. authorities used an anti-terror agreement with the EU that provides airline manifests that can be screened for potential terrorists to identify Mr. Carruthers as a passenger on a U.S. bound flight. Apparently that is what happened here as well. In previous news reports on the Carruthers case, U.S. authorities also indicated that a recent anti-terror extradition treaty with the UK could be used to charge gaming execs in abstentia and then demand their extradition to the U.S. The prosecutor in the Carruthers case also said that she believed the large unregulated amount of cash flowing out of the U.S. to gaming sites was being used by terrorists to plan attacks on the U.S. Very clearly the crackdown on internet gambling is considered by the U.S. government to be part of the War on Terror. [/ QUOTE ] Did you make this up or can you provide links? I don't care either way but don't be blowin smoke if there aint no fire. |

I believe that both BoS and SportingBet will accept sports-bets directly over the phone. I'm not positive about that, but if so then perhaps THAT is the bigger reason why these guys were detained. [/ QUOTE ] Stars has no sportsbook fulltilt has no sportsbook party's sportsbook (moneybookers) does not take bets from US customers. UB has no sportsbook I think microbob's post should be stuck at the top of the forum. |
