[ QUOTE ] 1C5, nick offered to play the racket side of the bet as well. i suggest you go for that. i have a feeling he'll back down. [/ QUOTE ] Anyone who like the glove side should play Nick w/ racket for high stakes. Any college baseball players on 2+2 ? [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] Tonight was a week before our tennis league started so I went out with my father to get a few sets in before the start of the season. I was telling him about this prop bet and he seemed interested in trying it out. Now my father played collegiate tennis and has played a good bit since. At this point my father is rated a 4.5, and estimates he was around a 6.0 when in college. Of course he has lost a lot of his mobility and a lot of his big power, but he still has a lot of good tennis skills. I am a strong 4.0 weak 4.5 player and when we play while competitive I really don't stand a chance. When we played this evening, he used the racket and I used my bare hands. I won easily, now there are some advantages that I had. I played baseball all of my life including college and it felt like I used a lot of those skills. I'm 6'2 and that helps with the serving part. I found my biggest advantage came with being able to catch and get rid of the ball quickly exactly where I wanted it to go. Now I didn't play a top flight college player, but I didn't play a slouch either and felt like I had a significant edge. The one down side is even after only 3 games my arm started getting sore, because it's tough on the arm to throw such a light ball hard. |

1c5 and tmfs,
how did catching the serve go? ------------------------------ all, I guess the racket-edge hypothesis is way off |

I had no problem catching the serve, but his shoulder gives him problems so he doesn't blast his serve. He hits more of a firm spin serve which I had no problem with. One thing that some people guessed would you will lose range without the racquet. But I found the opposite, it's easier to run without the raquet and therefore more range.

Nick has said:
[ QUOTE ] I will gladly make this bet with anyone as me being the one with the racket. since i was top 200 in the world ATP, I figured no one would want me to play with the racket. that is why i am taking the throwing side. i repeat, anyone want to be the thrower i am more than ready. [/ QUOTE ] So why doesn't someone take him up on being the one without the racket? |

hey, to all you people who thought i was pussy. [censored] you. i'm not. i'll let you guys know that i believe in my tennis abilities and poker abilities while i know exactly how good i am to not bite off more than i can chew. the reason i wanted to wait was because i know he too is a good tennis player and to give this type of claim seems ridiculous. to put up that much money is even more absurd. So i tried it today with a friend of mine who is also going to be a D1 tennis player next year, and i won (with a slight handicap to compensate for nick's practice...etc..etc) You have unlimited time and are able to put the ball wherever the [censored] you want when you can catch it. i also found a way to throw a sidearm serve that is so low that it's a pain in the ass to return. furthermore, when you throw it you can drophot it and hit angles so much more consistently if you practice it well. my arm did get [censored] tired though, but it was worth it to know that your deal is wack as [censored]. while i can hit angles in tennis, the only shot that i have complete control of is my serve. by catching and throwing, you have complete control of every single shot u can catch because you have virtually unlimited time to set up. with that said, basically every one of your shots becomes a serve as you can control it however u like. the best way for me to beat you would be to blast aces by you, and i know i can't keep that up for three sets.
furthermore BZ and I are [censored] stanford students. you really think we're going rush into this deal without any research? please. while u made a good attempt playing mind games with me, acting weak while we chat and then talking hard on this forum trying to make it hard on me. i read you. that's why you're stuck playing the sngs while we are consistently building our roll. just trust me, i know now the odds playing him is not good. and i'm done posting on this thread. |

You still sound like a pussy to me. EDIT: Also, Mr. Stanford student, do these two claims match? [ QUOTE ] Nick, I will use a racquet, you can catch. I'll play you for any amount of money =) [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] furthermore BZ and I are [censored] stanford students. you really think we're going rush into this deal without any research? please.
