Assuming for the moment the veracity of clairvoiance, how would the observance of one such endowed effect Schroedinger's cat? -Jaran [/ QUOTE ] My understanding of quantum entanglement is that clairvoiance would only be able to get around the indeterminancy problem if it we not assumed that it existed, but that it worked below the sub-atomic level. This would surely be Star Blazers thinking. So basically the cat is both until you clairvoy it or look at it. Sorry Wookie, couldn't resist... |

Assuming for the moment the veracity of clairvoiance, how would the observance of one such endowed effect Schroedinger's cat? -Jaran [/ QUOTE ] *splash* (the sound of me falling into Wookie's well) Read Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, by Douglas Adams (author of the Hitchhiker's Guide series, among other things), for a good, albeit tangential, discussion of this topic. What it boils down to is that this is a moot question; observation is observation, whether you open the box or peer into it with your spooky mind-powers, and as soon as the cat is observed the quantum field resolves. Edit: Kerowo beat me to it, but I think my explanation reads better. |

Assuming for the moment the veracity of clairvoiance, how would the observance of one such endowed effect Schroedinger's cat?
The cat would cease to be in a state consisting of a superposition of the dead state and the alive state, but instead the superposition would collapse, revealing the cat to be either dead or alive. You can observe the same phenomenon in a more practical experiment. If you shoot sodium atoms through a double slit in a dark vacuum, they will behave like waves. You can observe an interferene pattern of fringes, just like you would with light, rather than seeing two linds on the detector where the atom went through one slit or the other. However, if you open up a window to look at the experiment, the wave behavior vanishes, and the sodium atoms behave like proper particles. Nothing else about the experiment has changed. 1) What is the toughest poker lesson that you have learned? Hmmm, that's a close one between realizing that 6 max is poker, too, and folding good hands in large pots to big bets in NL. 2) What is the toughest poker lesson that you have failed to learn? I'm still bad at playing top pair, and top pair-type hands in NL. 3) What is real life like for you? Family? Job? Hobbies? Other random things? I'm a grad student, single. My immediate family lives in the Seattle area, but I have extended family that I frequently see in southern MN, in the bay area, in DC, and Atlanta. My hobbies are dominantly poker and swing dancing. 4) What are the religious/spiritual views or philosophies? I consider myself a devout Christian, raised Lutheran, but I'm no fundie. In my humble opinion, a lot of the ideas of the so-called "fundamentalists" are fundamentally wrong. A lot of what people hate most about the kind of Christianity most often discussed in the media is filled with too much hate and exclusion to be in line with the basic Christian ideas of love, forgiveness, and acceptance. They may have their relationship with Christ in order, and that is #1, but I think they're expressing it rather poorly. In many ways, the religious leaders today resemble the religious leaders of Jesus' day, on whom he railed endlessly. 5) Who else would you like to see in the well? You, bozlax, Entity, DeathDonkey, maybe CDC, and maybe Joe Tall. Oooh, getting Grunch would be a good one, too, although I think he's done one in SSNL. |

First I thought you were married, then I thought you were a college student. So what do you do when you're not pokering?
Nope, I'm single, and I'm not really a college student. See above for more details. Do you think THIS will be the best question asked in this thread? I do (this was about the Schroedinger's cat question). Nope. Limit or NL? Too hard to say at this point. Let me get in some more hands at limit, and then some more at NL. I'll probably end up playing both, however. Bumps or steeps? I have no idea what this means. Classical or quantum? I like teaching classical more, but quantum is the way of the world. Tap or ballet? Tap, I suppose, but I don't really get into either. Paper or plastic? Plastic. I reuse plastic grocery bags for garbage bags and lunch bags, and they're still recycleable. |

Do you play FullTime now? If no, do you plan to in the future?
Nope, and I never want to be a full time pro. Poker is a fun hobby with a nice side income, and that's it for me. How did you start out in Poker? At some very low stakes tournament at home games with my brother's friends, and then online at Full Tilt's play money tables with a copy of WLLH and HPFAP. What do you think are the most frequest mistakes at ML? Missing value bets and it's not even close, at least given the set of people who have a starting hand chart and an odds chart. How do you feel about cbetting? I probably do it a little too much, but it's usually very good. |

Bumps or steeps? I have no idea what this means. [/ QUOTE ] Figures, this was the one question I was most curious about. Assuming you're an expert skier if you teach it, I was wondering if you preferred mogul skiing or steep/extreme terrain. Now that I know you're from Seattle and you didn't understand the question, I can deduce that you're not a mogul skier, and you either like the steeps or just sitting in the base lodge drinking coffee. |

Ah, well, I haven't been skiing too much in the last several years, so I'm not up on the lingo. I prefer steeps.
Edited to add: I used to be pretty much what I'd call "expert," but now I've slipped a lot due to not sticking with it. |

How will you feel if it turns out you are functionally a breakeven player at 10/20?
Do you think Marquis sucks at posting? Do you hate grad school yet? |

How will I feel? Eh, breaking even at that level is a pretty decent accomplishment, but I don't think it's a big enough step up from 5/10 that I will be. If it happens, I'll probably just go back to NL where I know I still have plenty of room to improve. Do you think Marquis sucks at posting? Not entirely, and not even by Micro's standards. You have to go to OOT, NVG, or TV Poker to see the truly awful guys. Do you hate grad school yet? Eh, I'm in between. My project has grown pretty mundane at this point, so keeping focused is a little more difficult than I'd like. However, I don't really hate it. |

What limit and bankroll did you start with online?
Any big regrets in major poker-related decisions? |
