ok so I'm in Stokholm now, and so far it looks really nice. And indeed the women here are very hot, about every 20 seconds walking around the city I do a hot-woman-double-take. Sometimes triple.

But, I've maxed out my credit card, and I can't figure out how to get money from my Australian bank account to my hands, which kind of sucks. I'm about 20 hours away from being homeless. Any one in Stokholm interested in recieving some UB money for cash in hand? about $2000 US worth would be good, but I'll take what I can get. I can also netbank (as in electronic transfer of money from my bank account to your bank account) some money to some one for cash in hand. Either way I'm willing to pay say $200 US extra for the favour.

If some one's interested, can you post up or pm me a meeting place tommorow? I'll transfer money to you in front of your eyes at a net cafe if you want. I will check this post again at about 8:30 am Stokholm and confirm/deny any offers.

A suggested meeting place is required. I can get myself to anywhere near T-Centralen(central station).

If that falls through, I'm gonna have to try out the freegan lifestyle. I have a few questions in regards to this:

Can I just sleep in a park during the day? I plan to sleep in a park during the day cause it looks less bum-ish and less likely I'll be harrassed by whoever. Good idea?

Also, I heard the internet is free at some libraries. Is this true? Any of those near centralstaion?

For food, I plan to go to a food court in a mall some where and wait till people finish their meals, then swoop in and eat what's left.

Wish me luck all!

Yikes, sounds like you went to Sweden seriously under-funded. Just walk into a bank anywhere and explain your predicament. Explain that you really need to do an emergency fund transfer from your Aussie bank account. I'm sure they'll charge you extra for making it double fast, but at least that way you'll have some money in your hands pronto. Another alternative would be to head out to the Australian embassy and explain your predicament (though you might want to lie and say you lost your wallet with all the cash). They can probably help you out with arranging for a money transfer and what-not.

If all else fails I can always ask my mom if she'll let you crash at her place. She's a great cook!

hmm, yeah I walked into a bank today and asked if there was any way possible to get money from my oz bank account somehow, but they said no.

The Australian embassy is probably a good idea though.

And I'd like to say preemptively, yes I'm and idiot for ending up in this situation

Have you tried using your credit card in an ATM? pretty sure it works.

If you for some reason don't have a credit card, you can have someone in Australia send money through fedex. They're everywhere, (there is at least one at T-centralen), your parents or whom ever can deposit via the internet from a VISA-card.

If you want free internet, you can go to a library (try the one at KTH, royal institute of technology), it's a 15 min walk from T-centralen. There are lots of students on campus right now so there should be someone who can help you one way or another. Also there are lots of parties going on since the freshmen just arrived. You might even be able to score a sofa somewhere.

Good luck!

I think you're best bet is either going to the embassy or getting someone back home to send you money through Western Union or similar.

If you're really desperate you could probably eat at Stadsmissionen (homeless outreach center) at Stadsgården 22
116 45 STOCKHOLM (Slussen underground station) where you can get a hot meal between 11.30-13.30 and a sandwich and coffee at other times.

Thanks for all the info guys. Lucky for me I managed to free up some credit on my credit card last night, so I should be right for a week or two, but I will probably need some one back on Australia to send me money eventually anyway, so that info is very helpful. Also, thanks for the offer swede123

So far, Sweden is awesome. That is all.

HP,

if there is a time constraint, Finland is by FAR the country I would drop from your list. Denmark is infinitely preferrable. Finnish girls are, sad to say it, not in the same league as the girls in the rest of Scandinavia.

Are you into nature/skiing?

If so:
- Definitely go to Iceland, you won't regret it. Hot springs, volcanos, snow all over. Very very nice, and a healthy party life in Reykjavik. Not sure about net cafes, don't think that'll be a problem though.
- If you're really, really really into nature: Take a plane to Svalbard, a small island north of Norway. You have to like snow though, it's a cold place. Ice kayaking, sleighing with a pack of dogs across the polar ice, whale watching, polar bears and other animals, glacier hiking, skiing and so forth. Never been there myself yet unfortunately, but a friend of mine has been there several times and can't say enough good things about it. Warning: kind of expensive though, and probably poor on the net front. Worth it for say a week or so if you're into nature though.

Also, I think you would have far fewer troubles with the funding in Norway, Sweden sucks. Haha.

Feel free to PM me your questions about Norway in general (I live in Trondheim).

are you sure you meant 'fedex' ? I looked at the site http://www.fedex.com/se_english/ and couldn't find anywhere what you mention

I can't belive I typed "fedex" It must have been before coffee. Of course I meant "Forex" *sorry* And I checked, there are two of them at T-centralen.

I have used them to send money, it works well and it's pretty fast. Go to www.forex.se (click english), then services>money transfer>moneygram or go talk to them about how moneygram works.

Perhaps you can just go to www.moneygram.com directly, I checked it and they have partners in ozzyland too.

Cheers
