Would you rather be illiterate, or

Would you rather be blind on Saturdays and Sundays for the rest of your life?

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow. I really don't know. Probably option B, blind on weekends. I do know that I would take either one of those before being deaf. A life without music is not one worth living.

What piece of knowledge is the most important in SSNL?
What factors of your game do you think you are best at?
Out of these which would you prefer to have in the game: pocket rockets; position; stack of 100BB or more.
Your best tip for reading hands?

i know you've already told me, but I figure i'll ask again anyway as I've forgot, where in UK you living? You ever been before? When is your 1st trip to gutshot going to be?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll be living in York for the first year. Possibly transferring to London after one year, I'll have to see whether I like York. I've been to Oxford for a week and stopped by in Heathrow a few times but other than that no. 1st trip to Gutshot will be the first time I have some time off or have nothing important to do.

How much long-term EV would you be giving up if you never checkraised at NL100 and below?

[/ QUOTE ]

Not much. I hardly ever checkraise and it's something I've been trying to implement into my game a bit more. Overall checkraising is overrated.

[ QUOTE ]
Tell us your background, how you started ? Where you started playing ? How you progressed etc.

[/ QUOTE ]

It all started on a fateful Wednesday afternoon. I went to the library (which is something I hardly ever do) and read a computer game magazine (which is something I never do) that had an article about online poker. I went home, downloaded PartyPoker and the rest as they say is history.

Started off donking around with play money. Then deposited $100 and lost it. Deposited another $75 and have never redeposited since. I played whatever I felt like, donk-n-goes, 25NL, 0.5/1 limit etc. Then I moved over to Stars. Started playing 10NL and HU SNGs, won a HU SNG MTT for $800sth and then discovered casinowhoring. Made like $2.5k casinowhoring in about a month and then jumped right into NL100. Now i'm playing NL200 on Full Tilt as my main game, also playing NL100 if one of my buddies is donating.

[ QUOTE ]
How many hands can profitably be played by a good player ? I have recently decided to switch to playing a lot more hands. I don't have PT, but Stars stats show that I am playing approx. 40% of hands. I know that's bad, but I want to understand what does it take to play so many hands profitably ? I feel that one can keep increasing the number of hands as the skill increases of course depending on the table conditions.

[/ QUOTE ]

Samoleus can play 50% of his hands at NL2000 and be one of the biggest winners in the game. I think for mere mortals something like 32-33VPIP is about the maximum you can play profitably. The key to playing so many hands is superior hand reading skills. My hand reading sucks so I stick to about 20 VPIP.

And get PT already, it's the best investment you'll ever make.

[ QUOTE ]
Raising from EP: I play button very well, but I let go a lot of hands like 22, 67s from EP. How can I improve my play ? What hands should I include and what are the pitfalls of opening up ?

[/ QUOTE ]

These are my ranges UTG

6-max: All PPs, ATs+,AJo+,KQs-JTs, and a few SCs when I feel like it.

FR: All PPs, AQs+, AKo

And raise everything obviously. I don't openlimp.

However, there's nothing wrong with folding 67s in EP, in fact you probably should. If you don't feel comfortable playing a hand in a given situation then you can't hurt yourself by folding. That said, I think all PPs from all positions are playable just for set value alone (almost). Avoid trap hands like KJo, QTo and A7o from EP.

Age, post a picture of yourself, location.

Last three songs you've listened to.

*sigh* Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, or none of the aforementioned?

[/ QUOTE ]

Just turned 19 three days ago. Don't have any pictures on my laptop. Think Brad Pitt but hotter. Location = Finland for another month, then York, UK.

Last three songs:

- Fear You Won't Fall by Joshua Radin
- Wake Up (live at Fashion Rocks) by Arcade Fire featuring David Bowie (ZOMG this is the best evah. Youtube link )
- For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti by Sufjan Stevens

Oh man I SOOO want to say Monica just out of principle but alas, you are right, Rachel is the only correct answer to this question. My personal preference is around season 7-8.

What kind of playing style do you feel is optimal for playing at SSNL, LAG or TAG, or do you play a more fluid style depending on table.

And most important of all do you like warm beer?

[/ QUOTE ]

For SSNL I think TAG is optimal. Obviously change that according to how the table is playing, but in general I think TAG > LAG.

I don't drink any alcohol and I'm sure that even if I did I wouldn't drink warm beer if my life depended on it.

What hands give you the most trouble OOP? In position?

And why?

[/ QUOTE ]

I try my best to avoid hands that get me in trouble. Axo probably gives me the most trouble overall.

It's just a hard hand to play because if you're playing a big pot you're almost certainly behind and if you're OOP it's very hard to control the size of the pot.

What's the first "aha!" moment you can recall in poker?

The most recent?

Any others?

[/ QUOTE ]

First aha moment was probably when I realised that this:

[ QUOTE ]
"if you experience a period where it seems like nothing but the low cards are winning the pots, then it is a perfectly legitimate strategy change to start playing low cards."

[/ QUOTE ]

wasn't true.

Most recent was probably something that Jamougha taught me.

Other aha moments include (these are all from a text file I keep stored on my hard drive with random tidbits of 2p2 knowledge):

[ QUOTE ]
One "AHA" moment was shoving with hands which have good equity against your villians calling range.
Example which would you rather go AI with assuming you have a pot sized raise left on a 249 board.
You can go AI with 55 or KQ. Well shoving with KQ is much better than shoving 55 because KQ has a lot
more equity against villian calling range (66+ and any 9).

[/ QUOTE ]

Thank you aba for that one.

[ QUOTE ]
I reraise preflop with JJ and get called. The flop is T94 2-flush. Be more apt to check behind with AA
then JJ, because AA doesn't have to worry about overcards hitting.

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe this one was from Lucky.

[ QUOTE ]
Good players don't care nearly as much about protecting their hand as they do their stack.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thank you riverboatking (I haven't quite figured this one out yet, but I'm sure that when I do it will be a huge aha moment.

Also realising that checking is better than betting on a A72r board when you have KK was another aha moment.

Edit: I'm gonna watch a few Grey's Anatomy reruns, back in an hour or so.

Kit, which of the following statements is more likely:
1) Your priorities suck!
2) You are attempting to kill yourself of boredom

[/ QUOTE ]

Did you just insult Grey's Anatomy, the 3rd best TV show of all time?

Let's get this straight,

Music > TV > 2p2 > School > Other activities > Friends
