New balls = hitter wins hands down
Dead balls = thrower has a fighting chance

[/ QUOTE ]
This is one possible angle but I think it should be too obvious, to the point that noone would take the racket side of the bet unless they have taken care of this issue in the beforehand agreement of the prop bet.

I would imagine they would be using fresh out of the can tennis balls.

you people are great. i am getting new ideas everyday. i am just going to catch and throw, i will not be standing near the service line to receive, i will actually be very far back. 1C5 was a very good collegiate player and it should be a great match.

1C5 will you let me play the first set gloveless and then switch to the glove after the first set?

We will use new Wilson US Open balls and use new balls if we split the first two sets.

It will be on a hard court, diving will hurt.

[/ QUOTE ]

One of Nick's earlier posts said any surface. Clay was even mentioned as an option.

[/ QUOTE ]

I won't reveal my tennis credentials, but I have played on all surfaces and I assure you that falling on clay sucks just as bad, if not more, than on a hard court. Grass, not so much, but if you are diving around like a moron for a couple hours trying to catch serves, you will look like you were thrown from a speeding car.

Also, in response to how hard it would be to catch a good serve (say over 100mph - which every D1 player can do), you are kidding yourself if you think it would be easy to take constant abuse with little to no pay-off for an entire match.

Ever been thrown from a speeding car in a collision? Didn't think so. A few rolls in the grass won't hurt more than, say, some hits taken from a college LB in pads the next day.

Whatever dude. A sufficiently talented 3B can do it, you're covering 7-8' no problem, w/o diving.

I got $50 on Nick. Bet? xfer to winner over ps/pp/net/fpay.

Default challenge excepted

3 sets??? Jesus, the racket guy is at least a 10-1 favorite if they're equal athletes and the racket guy knows anything about hitting a ball.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree, but will settle for 4-1. Find some players and lets do it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Let me get this straight:

I play you in tennis and you get no racket? Any stakes you want, I'm in.

but explain the bet EXACTLY first....

you're offering 3-1 on me?? what am I not getting here?? shouldn't the guy with the racket be the favorite?? I will not lose a game on my serve and I seriously doubt he'd win many games on his own serve. Give him a mitt he might be able to do something against my serve...maybe...

Najdorf - no I have not been thrown from a speeding car and neither have you. Who cares.

$50? Sounds boring, but if this thing actually happens and there is some verification, I would consider.

You are also diving at least 50-70 times in one of these matches, probably a lot more. No 3B has ever had to do that, and I think you are wrong with your LB analogy. Also, if you think a good server is only going to move you around 7 or 8 feet and you won't have to dive you are extremely mistaken.
