Nate,
I'd do it for 50k, probably lower. Some of the high numbers people are tossing out are really surprising to me. |

This totally depends on the payout structure. if i have to go 1 full year to get any cash and they are totally rigid (if i taste someone else's food at a restaurant and then realize what i did) then the price goes way up, over 100,000 easy, probably into the 150,000 range. If you get some pro-rated stuff for going part of the distance or they will forgive slip ups like not checking if something is vegan when some one offers you a taste of their meal, or eating a pastry at 7 am after a 14 hour drive then i think its in the 20-30k range. Hard to put an actual price on it.

Vegan: 600K or so. Seriously I think I'd want to kill myself nine months in.
Vegetarian: Probably 75-100K. If you let me eat fish it's probably down to like 15-20K, and I'll just use the cash to eat sushi 4-5 nights a week. |

I would be surprised if a one-time 50k influx would make that much of a difference to your quality of life. Imagine: You're at Delmonico's. "I'll have a garden salad, no dressing." Nobu: "Just some edamame, please." Obviously you'll avoid going to these places, to lessen the heartache. But your friends will be constantly needling you about it, you'll get kicked out of grocery stores for drooling on the meat counter, etc...and you'd deal with all that for 50k? |

Considering my intolerence for soy (it makes me horribly gassy and is apparently genetic, as my son has this reaction as well), it would be a very long year. And considering I'd still be the family cook, and my family sure as hell isn't going vegan, so I'd be cooking meat while not being allowed to eat it, it would be a really, reallly, really long year, someone would have to make it VERY worthwhile. And I want to see the money in escrow before I start.
$500K, nothing less. And probably more. |

Will,
Hmmm.... Some good points. Maybe 100k. I just don't think it would be that big a deal. I came up w/ 50k because if someone said they'd give me $1000 to eat vegan for a week, I'd definitely do it. Then again, I wouldn't have done it this week in Vegas. I dunno, it just seems not really that hard at all to do for a year. I mean really we're probably talking less than once a month where I'm in a spot where I'm like OMG I so wish I could eat that. Hmmm, now I'm wondering. Friday night at Delmonico's, right before the start of the meal, how much would I have taken to eat vegan that evening.... Hmmmm..... |

The number has to be significant enough for the person, so I'd probably do it for like 10K, which is a year of tuition/books/transportation/recreation.
Now if the meals were already somehow prepared for me and I don't have to think about it/create a new menu, then i'd do it for less, maybe like 5-7K |
