This is one of the most horrible things I could imagine. To go a whole year without meat, cheese, eggs (eggs especially), it's horrid. You'd be warped for life and meat would probably taste awful for at least a few months after that.
To eat Vegan for a year, I'd have to be paid about $5 million. |

[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, I'm a big fan of Ethopian, Indian, and falafel, which is why my answer is only $27,000. [/ QUOTE ] On top of that, as you become vegan, you find more dishes that you like. It sounds silly, but many vegans report that they feel like they actualy have more wide variety of choices and stuff, feel liberated in their food choices. You learn to cook new meals, and in new ways, you try new ethnic foods, it's pretty fun actualy, and you get lots of new favourites. I am pretty sure I regularly eat foods that most americans rarely eat. |

" I could improve my health in the process" not sure about this. i think it would be much harder to get certain nutriets. [/ QUOTE ] I've always figured the heirarchy goes about like this: 1. Well-balanced omnivorous diet. 2. Well-balanced vegetarian diet. 3. Poorly-balanced vegetarian diet. 4. Well-balanced vegan diet. 5. Poorly-balanced omnivorous diet. 5. Poorly-balanced vegan diet. |

Vegan MD
This site is run by a doctor, specializing in human nutrition, and he is vegan, and advocates a vegan diet. He has some talks online, and stuff.. I have downloaded and listend to them. I think that from a health standpoint, it is kind of silly to lump "omnivorous diet" into one category. I feel that it is probably healthier to have a very well balanced omnivorous diet, but this would still be a plant based diet. A vegan diet is also a plant based diet, but is not omnivorous. Most americans eat an omnivorous diet, but meat based. I think the healthiest omnivorous diet, would still be low in meat. |

BTW, vegans get all the nutrition they need from plant sources, except for B-12, which must be supplemented. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, probably. I've known a few vegetarian buddies whose diet consisted primarily of 7-Layer Burritos, and that can't be terribly healthy. But there's also a degree of difficulty factor here. Going vegan is far more a total lifestyle commitment than going vegetarian. |
