Is walking played out? I remember when I was a kid, I used to walk pretty much everywhere I would want to go. The neighborhood ice cream place, the playground, my friend Dominick's house (who had Colecovision and the Castle Greyskull playset!).
Nowadays, I find myself driving more. To go food shopping, run errands, go to other states, etc. I think I'm going to make an effort to walk more. |

Let's start a walking forum. We just need to find a sponsor.

yes, walking is played out
the bicycle continues to be the most efficient mode of travel. there's also nothing more fun than being 12 and riding around on your bike with 10+ friends looking for something to do... other than having sex at 12...but it's hard to get a chick to hop on your pegs and come back to your treehouse |

I walk some, but I live in an awesome neighborhood for that. I live in an apartment building in a Central Business District for a suburb with 40k people.
The likely reason why you drive more is that you live in a neighborhood where there is nowhere close to walk to. This is one of the things about modern society that piss me off: developers putting 300 homes in and no stores within walking distance. You walked more when you were a child because you lived in a neighborhood where there was stuff to walk to. |

I live in the best walking neighboorhood ever, there is no less than 5 bars, 10 restaurants, a major grocerystore, 3-4 italian specialty grocery shops, within 5-6 streets (not even a real city block). I walk if its for that stuff, otherwise it wouldnt be worth it.

I walk all the time. I have to walk 1/2 a mile to the metro in the morning for work. All the bars I go to, when I stay in town and not go into DC are walking distance. I eat very unhealthy take out/fast food 5 nights a week, which are all walking distance from my apt. My car leaves its parking spot 1-2 times a week, tops.

even in the strip mall, apartment complex life of southern silicon valley, walking is pretty chill.

Sam, walking is silly and inefficient. Skipping is where it's at.

Walking is so last millenium. We now have something called "the wheel", you might want to look into that.

samj,
Move to SF or NYC. Walking rules in both places. |
