You guys are aware that this is the final two episodes of the series, right? HBO stopped production. There is no season 4. There will be two 2-hour movies afterwards. [/ QUOTE ] Apparently, that's not 100% final. The guy who posts here who is a writer for Deadwood posted awhile back that this may not be 100% set in stone. I've been holding out hope. I think it was him (I could have read it somewhere else) that said it was a problem with who was getting overseas distribution? So, hopefully they can work that out and they can continue one of the top 2 or 3 series on TV. |

I would be grateful if you remembered their name. |

I've been sitting here trying to remember since I posted. I'm so frustrated I'm nearly ready to take on the "Search" function.

Richardson clearly invented the post it note. 3M owes that dude. Really enjoyed this ep. I was slightly thrown off by the stuff with Langrish, but I'm assuming it's driving somewhere. Loved seeing Al take charge, and even Charlie kinda begrudingly taking orders from him. [/ QUOTE ] Can someone please try to explain the point of the Langrish story arc? I have no idea why these people are taking up screen time when there could be more cursing, drinking whoring, and throat cutting. Also, why did Hearst have Odell killed? The implication was that Odell was up to no good, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out what he had done to deserve killing. |

Langrish was a real theater owner, and was reportedly one of Swearengen's few friends. I think his purpose is to show that the camp is trying to "mature" into a real town by introducing the arts (in addition to the paper and the school, which are also recurring themes), as well as serving as a fulcrum between the Swearengen and Hearst interests.
But the main reason is that Brian Cox is an effing fantastic actor, and is watchable in whatever he does. |

It hasn't been establish that Hearst had Odell killed, but that's the very likely assumption.
Having internal strife within Langrish's camp when we haven't established any real personalities beyond Jack and the fat girl nailed Conn is weird. I'm assuming that what's happening is some build up to put Jack in a position where he may use his position as Hearts's back guy to do something nastier. |

I found it. User Actual God says he's a writer for Deadwood, and this is the thread/post that I was talking about:
Richardson is awesome PS- Search really sucks. |

It seems that Langrish may have even hinted to something like this when talking to Al on the balcony a few episodes ago. Loved Al in this episode, but I love him in every episode. Him jumping off the balcony was great. I enjoyed the line, "Getting shot at aint no fun and it never gets any better." |
