Not when it is true.

Ok genius, explain how a lock breaks when someone is kicking in the door, let me guess you can't.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not saying that OP's story is true, or unexaggerated. However, its possible you are all misunderstanding what he is saying. When he said "the lock broke," I was picturing, not the metal snapping, but the wood to which the lock is affixed breaking off. I recently had to break into my garage (long story). There is a side door, it is an old wooden door. After a few kicks, i was able to kick it in, and it wasn't the hinges that went. It was the wood that the door (jam?) was attached to. I'm not sure what its called, but its the metal recepticle into which the lock goes. Basically, this piece ripped out of the side, and the door swung open. It ripped out because the wood partially broke, adn the screws that affixed the metal to the wood also broke. (Edit: Broke is the wrong word, they toor loose from the wood). Maybe it is a situation similar to this that the OP is trying to describe when he says "the lock broke."

Edit: However, now that I've thought about the OP some more, I cannot imagine a situation in which cops would be issued a "no-knock warrant" for a simple domestic violence situation. Nor can I imagine exigent circumstances wherein police would kick down a door on a domestic violence call, unless they arrived and someone was screaming bloody murder inside. So this story is somewhat questionable.

it pisses me off that i just talked to my room mate and he said that the hinges broke, not the door knob because i've seen numerous doors broken down via the doorknob breaking.

either way, the cops did knock, my room mate just didn't answer because he knew it was them. they pretty obviously didn't have a warrant authorizing them to break the door down which makes this actually the first ever case of a police officer breaking the law/ going against protocol.

You have obviously never have seen this then.

[ QUOTE ]

Sir Bedevere: There are ways of telling whether she is a witch.
Peasant 1: Are there? Oh well, tell us.
Sir Bedevere: Tell me. What do you do with witches?
Peasant 1: Burn them.
Sir Bedevere: And what do you burn, apart from witches?
Peasant 1: More witches.
Peasant 2: Wood.
Sir Bedevere: Good. Now, why do witches burn?
Peasant 3: ...because they're made of... wood?
Sir Bedevere: Good. So how do you tell whether she is made of wood?
Peasant 1: Build a bridge out of her.
Sir Bedevere: But can you not also build bridges out of stone?
Peasant 1: Oh yeah.
Sir Bedevere: Does wood sink in water?
Peasant 1: No, no, it floats!... It floats! Throw her into the pond!
Sir Bedevere: No, no. What else floats in water?
Peasant 1: Bread.
Peasant 2: Apples.
Peasant 3: Very small rocks.
Peasant 1: Cider.
Peasant 2: Gravy.
Peasant 3: Cherries.
Peasant 1: Mud.
Peasant 2: Churches.
Peasant 3: Lead! Lead!
King Arthur: A Duck.
Sir Bedevere: ...Exactly. So, logically...
Peasant 1: If she weighed the same as a duck... she's made of wood.
Sir Bedevere: And therefore...
Peasant 2: ...A witch!

You're clearly all losers and I'm grateful my tax dollars are helping the police to harass people like you.

locks are made of metal, the last time I checked Wood breaks before metal does.

[/ QUOTE ]

that is the absolute dumbest generalization i've ever heard in my entire life.

[/ QUOTE ]

ive seen and kicked in several doors, its always the frame that goes. Ive managed to break a doorknob, but only in the fact that it just doesnt work anymore, it doesnt actually break like it allows the door to actually open.

Either way it doesnt really matter, as the cops didnt kick in your door

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm with Alobar here. I lived in a frat(yes I'm THAT cool) for two years and probably kicked down a half a dozen doors or more myself. I saw countless others booted in. It's almost always the frame.

I can recall a single instance where it wasn't the frame that gave. The door was wooden and split vertically. The lock was fine.

Again, to echo Alobar, the few times we managed to bust the knob off, the door wouldn't open, you still had to use a screwdriver or pen to manually pull the lock out.

i really don't think it's a good use of my time to take a photo of a door. the door has been fixed. it looks like every other door on earth.

[/ QUOTE ]

I find it odd that you are going to file a complaint about the unlawful entry of the officers but chose not to photograph the primary piece of evidence.

next time dont talk to cops. there isnt a single advantage that can come out of it. tell them to arrest you or get the hell out of your house.

He had always really wanted one but could never be bothered. This was the excuse he needed.
