Cement, I've always... I do mean ALWAYS called it sea-mint. I didn't realize I said it wrong until my hubby started laughing at me everytime I said it.

flea market - free market

It's hard for Japanese people to distinguish between "l" & "r"

English teacher was from the UK. I'm Australian.

http://www.languagehat.com/archives/001730.php - some info i found.

"Traditionally, educated Australians have sanctioned only the "tray" pronunciation, regarding the alternative as clear evidence of illiteracy."

Looks like you learned something regardless, so when that old guy keeps saying trays you won't think he's retarded.

(I realize now that one is no more correct than the other btw).

I'm from Mass.. so we pronounce plenty of words incorrectly. One I will note is probably (pronounced prob-lee), many others like this where we avoid one of the consonants. Many of the towns/cities in Mass are butchered also. The city of Worcester is pronounced "Woos-ter," Haverhill is pronounced "Haiv-rill" and so on. I'm sure others from around here have plenty of examples

until I was in my 20's I said "Snow White and the Seven Dorfs"

not even a 'w' in the word Dorf in my pronunciation. It still slips out sometimes.
