I just found out how to pronounce gyro.

Instead of JIE-RO, it's EURO?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah this one bugs me because everyone says JIE-RO. I've even heard GUY-RO a couple times.

[/ QUOTE ]

actually if you really want to show off, singular (masculine) in Greek has an S on the end (and not pronounced like Z, but eSS). so the Greek guys are rolling their eyes when you try to pick on each other about the first syllable only. but all this is moot b/c they're Lebanese or Turkish or Azerbaijani or Armenian as often as they're Greek.

From street fighter; I never knew how to prounounce Guile or Dhalsim.

My best guesses were goo-LEE and da-HAL-sim.

[/ QUOTE ]

oh my good god.. i remember hearing GOO-LEE all the time and thinking, how dumb are these people. i was like 10 years old too.. it's clearly guile.. like the word guile, no?

for dhalsim it looks to me like dahl-seem, or dahl-sim..whatever

there are several words I have to look up repeatedly, but the only one I can think of is canape, because I can never remember if there's an accent on the end. fortunately I've never wanted to try to use it.

On a similar note I have heard people mistakenly say that it's a "doggy dog world".

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe that was initiated by Snoop.
