I also remember trying to talk to my Mom about the musical "Less Miz-er-uh-bulls".

Mia,

Everything I know about B'more is from The Wire and Homicide, so my fundamental understanding of it is

1- there are crabs

2- you will get shot

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL.

I grew up just south of Baltimore. You hear a lot of 'hon speak. "I'm going downeyayshun hon" "I live in Balmer" "Where is yous guys going?" etc.

[/ QUOTE ]

FYP. "I'm sweaty, I need to take a shar" is one of my favorites.

daryn,

Do you really want your 2+2 legacy to be "In Italy They Pronounce It Like This Dude" ?

Rule of thumb: If you ever meet some black dude with this name, say "Da Boys." If you ever meet some French dude with this name, say "Doo Bwah."

[/ QUOTE ]
Speaking with a bit of authority on this subject, the S is silent even in the Americanzed version. Maybe because I grew up in Illinois and we don't say "Ill-i-noise". However, for reasons I cannot explain, I actually use both Doo Bwah and Da Boy with roughly the same frequency, so you might want to dismiss the opnion of someone who apparently can't decide how to pronounce their own name.

I always said ess-fur instead of ess-eff-er. Actually I'm not sure which is correct.
